Discouraging the heck outta me:wallbash:. It seem like everytime i wash (i hate washing my hair!) my hair, i have strings and strings of hair on my hands, towel and shirt...YUCK! :nono:

What are my options? I'm sooo tempted to relax:perplexed. Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried wearing braid or twist extensions?
How often are you manipulating your hair?
What products are you using?

When I was transitioning, low manipulation was my best friend. I never combed or brushed my hair when it was dry and I made sure to be very gentle with it when it was wet.

I also used a reconstructor every month to strengthen my hair. I also used only diluted shampoo on my hair along with creamy leave-ins.

Have you tried wearing braid or twist extensions? Ocassionally
How often are you manipulating your hair? Every other day... How do you go without combing your hair? I'm normally in ponytails with my ends tucked, but I do comb my hair w/ wide teeth comb; seldom brush.
What products are you using? sta-sof-fro and Neutrogena leave-in conditioner..

What am I doing wrong?

I'm transitioning and I have extremely coarse hair. You need too stop combing your hair...

I know this seems weird but really, why do you need to comb your hair unless you're wearing it down? How far along are you? Do you flat iron?

My transition is DEF not a breeze but what I did/started doing is:

- Wash my hair every week and a half. I do this only because co-washing is not ok for me. I throws my moisture/protein balance out of wack.

- I flat iron my hair so that the two textures are, for the most part, the same.

- use quality prods

I agree with the combing too much. If I wore a ponytail or bun, I'd comb the first day and just add a little moisturizer and put a scarf on every night for a week. Meaning I wouldn't comb my hair for the entire week. I would brush my hair a little to slick back any frizzies.

You should definitely consider wearing more braid or twist extensions during the duration of your transition to help ease the process. Less manipulation.

I am transitioning as well. 24 weeks post and I am happy to say I am not experiencing any breakage.

What has helped me the most is deep conditioning with a protein conditioner followed by a moisturizing conditioner once a week. In addition to the deep conditioning I co-wash one day a week too.

I shampoo once a week using a moisturizing shampoo. My rinse out instant conditioner is also a moisturizing conditioner.

I also use Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner and seal with castor and coconut oil mixed.

My hair is soft and manageable with no breakage.

It sounds like you need to tweak your regi because your hair is missing something.

One of the most important things I learned about relaxed hair is that it needs protein treatments or protein deep conditioners and if you are going to transition you must keep your hair strong and moist by deep conditioning it.

I transitioned for seven months before I BC'd. I flat-ironed first, but at some point I didn't like to because I had to do it every day. After that, I wore braid-outs (put rollers on the ends for some curl) until I cut off the relaxed ends. I found that heavy moisturizing, particularly on the new growth, followed by a good braid out, lasted a week, helped me get accustomed to not having straight straight hair, and helped merge the textures well.

This is part of the reason why I couldnt transition long. I can't deal with two textures, once I BCed (which I recommend if your not braiding or twisting or rollersetting) it was so easy to comb through. Looks can definitely be deceiving when your transitioning but Im happy I finally BCed.
