I have been wearing a weave for two months and I plan on taking it out a month from today.I know this is a LONG time to keep a weave in, but I have vertical braids (as usual) and have never have had matting or tangling problems.

BUT I do get A LOT of shedding and I'm sure some of this is the natural shedding of not losing hairs for three months , but I'm worried that it may be excess shedding. :ohwell:

In the past I have just taken my braids out, washed my hair and done a deep conditioner. Should I do a proten treatment? and if I go the proten route do I do this before I wash my hair?

What process would you use if you were taking your braids out after two or three months? :scratchch

TIA!

Keep the braids moist with H20 and oil while you take them down so to prevent snapping the hair off as you unbraid. Make sure you take your time and gently undo each braid. Be patient with any knots and work them out from the bottom up. Definitely do a protein treatment when you have them all out. I'd recommend Aphogee Keratin Reconstructor and mix it with some melted shea butter and coconut oil for added moisture. This will give your hair the best of both protein and moisture. HTH.

I shampoo, clarify, deep condition w/ protein followed by moisture, then amla pre-poo and co-wash the day I take my braids out.

I vote for protein... and you do it in the process of washing your hair... It depends on when was your last protein treatment and how strong on which one you use now.

I've never done a proten treatment before! :ohwell:
