I'm so scared-I made my hair too straight

I\'m so scared-I made my hair too straight

I just self-relaxed my hair after waiting 8 weeks. I've been self-relaxing for about a year now. I try not to let my hair get too straight but this time, I think I left it in too long. I left in for about 20 minutes which includes applying and smoothing. Now my hair is shedding in some spots /images/graemlins/cry3.gif I've never had this happen before and I used the same product and timing.

I hope it stops soon. I was sure to rinse and neutralize properly. I deep conditioned with a bunch of different conditioners (rysell honey & almond, 9 en 1, mane & tail, humecto, kenra) and it seems to be shedding less. I can't afford to shed too much because my hair is not long to begin with. I'm so depressed. Every time I think I've made some progress, I have a set back. /images/graemlins/cry3.gif I've been trying so hard for so long.

My hair looks great though. It feels nice, silky and lush. I just smoothed it back into a bun and will try to leave it alone.

Hey Keylargo,

Try not to stress too much right away, it may not be bad as you think. Since your hair looks good, it probably isn't as bad. Also, you should probably do a protein treatment next week..

Re: I\'m so scared-I made my hair too straight

I hope you're right Kaddy. I'm so paranoid. I decided to apply some nexxus emergencee for about 10 minutes just to be on the safe side.

Re: I\'m so scared-I made my hair too straight

Wash your hair again with the neutralizer. I read this before in a hair magazine that if one experiences post relaxer shedding to neutralize again. I hope this helps.

Re: I\'m so scared-I made my hair too straight

I agree with Kapri about washing again with the neutralizer shampoo. I've learned other ladies on the board have done so successfully to stop that shedding. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

KL - I'm sorry to hear about this /images/graemlins/frown.gif I agree that you should re-neutralize just to be safe. Maybe getting on a protein one week, moisturizing condition the next week regimen for a while that would help. Best of luck /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

Re: I\'m so scared-I made my hair too straight

Sorry to hear about your setback... Wasn't there something on this board about how not to use heavy-duty proteins after relaxing as it "unstraigthens" the hair? (Can't remember the exact thread...) Maybe the protein would also stop the shedding. My heavy protein of choice is Joico K-Pak. Garlic shampoo is also supposed to stop shedding. Good luck.

I agree that neutralizing may work. I always like to use a clarifying poo 3-5 days after I had a relaxer and then do a deep moisturizing conditioner.

Re: I\'m so scared-I made my hair too straight

Thanks ladies. I did re-neutralize once I realized I was shedding. Now that my hair is dry, it seems to be fine.

Chichi, I used the emergencee for that reason. I don't like to use it much but thought this was a good time to use it. I was thinking of the same thread you were thinking of. I may have to give the K-pak a try next week if I think I need it.

Thanks again ladies. I'm feeling a little more at ease.

Re: I\'m so scared-I made my hair too straight

Hi Keylargo,

I'm so sorry to hear about this! Sounds like you've gotten great advice. How soon after relaxing did you notice the shedding? I think it's a good sign it's not shedding dry, but try the K-pak if needed next week. Please update us!!
