it's such a pain. This is my first time and I'm about halfway. I started yesterday around 3pm and had to take breaks to eat, sleep, and go to school. I was wearing my hair out for the past month and realised that my hair needed a rest but I didn't want to wear wigs as I want easy access to my scalp at all times. But braids are exspensive and they're done too tight and I'd like to keep my hair so I that to just finally do it myself. I've been toying with the idea for about a year and yesterday I decided to just do it ad it's turning out better than I thought. I'm not able to get it tight but that's ok cuz I don't want it to be. I like that I'll eventually have the freedom to plait my hair as tight as I want it and I'm plaiting my edges reeeeaaalll slack. I sprayed coffee on my edges for the added strength to the follicles.

These braids are butt length right now. I could've been done a long time ago if I'd done them BSL but I want them waistlength. I used synthetic hair as shown below. I bought it at Dollar Tree. When I'm done I have to cut and burn the ends to seal. I will either take pics or do a YT video when I'm done. Oh and my knuckles hurt. TTFN Ladies.

I feel you. When I do mine, I do them big cause I just can't spend that much time doing my hair. Best time for me to do them is a saturday that I'm not doing anything. I turn the channel on lifetime and I go at it for 10 hours

I haven't self braided in a while, but I usually do it over a WEEKEND so that I can take my time and not rush!

Good luck, CD

Good onya!

I like to braid on weekends too, but I have also done it in the week and just worn a hat over the unfinished sections, even if I have to tip it to the side :giggle: and done then over a few days. Being able to take a break does make the task more bearable.

i'm a self braider too. I do the crown 1st so I can stretch the process over a week. I can pull my braids up in a ponytail and no one can tell it's not finished.

I want to try braids this summer. When I explained to the lady at the BBS what I wanted to do she said "People don't do that anymore, that's played out":perplexed. I'm going for larger braids when I do them.:yep:

What!!:lachen::lachen:

that's why i usually do twists, they're faster. not TOO much faster, but braiding is tedious in comparison.

i was gonna try that hair, but i didn't think it would be any good...let us know how it turns out!

Lilsparkle it is very easy to braid with IMO. It barely tangles with me. I first stated with a pack of kanekolon from the BSS and it tangled so much. It used that in the back for the first 4 rows from the nape up. The Calypso one is straighter, that's why it's easier to braid with for me.
