From what i've read, a lot of LHCF members wait at least 2-4 wks after a relaxer to put braids in. Well, I dont know what I was thinking but I put my braids in ONE WEEK after my relaxer. Now i'm freaking out -- is my hair going to break off? My BF says to take them out now because a lot of damage will be done. BUT I PAID $200 & having braids is soo liberating, i can work-out everyday & wash n go.

My BF & I argued about this. I dont think my hair will break off, will it? Isnt using Infusium/Aphogee Keratin reconstruction enough protection? LHCF should I take my braids out?

I can't help much but hopefully someone will answer you soon:yawn:.

I do think a lot of it rests on how tight those braids are, on the hair. too tight is too tight, freshly relaxed or not.

It's not tight at all. I made sure of that. Does it matter that my relaxer was a mild one that was washed off right after application?

I can only speak from my own experience, but I hope it helps you out.

I wore Micros for 4 years. During the last 2 years they were TINY! It took 13 hours to get my hair braided, cost 250 dollars for the braids and 150 for the hair.

I was always relaxed. I would take the braids out, do a touch up a day or 2 before, sometimes the night before, and have it braided right back up. I didn't know much about hair care back then or I would probably have hair to the floor by now. I never had any breakage. Never. My hair was dry and overprocessed. I sprayed daily with a homemade spritz of water and conditioner but that was it.

Make sure they aren't too tight and take care of them. Keep your hair moisturized and you should be ok.

HTH

I used to relax my hair intentionally right before I got braids
just so I'd have less naps when I took my hair down and could
see my newgrowth. I think at the very worst,
it's just a waste of relaxer (depending on how you look at it).
But I never had any problems with it.
The only damage I got was from over processing relaxers.

You should be fine, just keep up with using your infusium 23 and moisturizing and your hair should be fine. You already mentioned that they aren't tight so your hair shouldn't be pulling so don't worry!

I hope you are feeling better today!

My hair type is 3c/4a and back then I always relaxed bone straight! Oh the things I have learned!

I think you should be fine. I probably wouldn't hurt to rinse the braids w/ neutralizing shampoo to make sure that all of that relaxer is out.

On another note: I think it's kinda cute how your b/f is all up in your hair

I think how you take care of your hair has so much more to do with the health of the hair than whether you have braids or not! I hope this helps. Keep that hair moisturized and baby it.

I am almost 90% sure that if you take care of your hair and keep it moisturized, your hair should be in great condition.

Just don't slack on the moisture and protein.:yep:

:grouphug:LHCF, thanks so much for responding. I really will baby my hair. I just couldnt get my fingers outta my hair so I had to hide it ASAP.

My BF is up in my hair b/c she lost a lot of hair from braids eventhough she washed them. But I still think it's b/c she did something wrong. She claims to put up with enuff hair drama from me without having to deal with more after I take my braids out...he he he. I do keep that poor thing on the phone talking about pre-poos and oil rinses :lachen:
