It took me about an hour to get 24 1.5 inch mesh rollers in my hair. It wasn't too bad! I was able to get the pins in ok at first but then they started to be difficult. I have to figure out the trick to them. Now, I'm sitting under the dryer and I'm anticipating at least 2 hours for my hair to dry. Ouchie - these pins hurt! I will be sure to post pictures when I'm done.

I can't wait....

could you please also explain how you did it on natural hair, as I would like to try rollersetting also....someday.

My rollerset is complete and I have pictures in my album!
It was a success thanks to macherieamour's tutorial and mesh rollers!

It looks great....
When I have a couple of days off I'm gonna try doing a rollerset incase it comes out disasterous.

Wow, your hair turned out really good, especially the ends. I wonder how the same rollerset would turn out on someone with a 4a/b hairtype like mine.

Beautiful!! I'm so happy this worked for you!

I have a natural friend who wants to try rollersetting also but isn't sure it will work. All one has to do is try and see, as you did.:)

Very pretty, Hairlove. Glad to see that you are posting pics again of that lovely hair of yours ;)

Very nice! You've got it mastered. I rollerset my natural hair weekly with mesh rollers. I wouldn't have it any other way, I love rollersets.

Joyous - Do you have to flatiron your roots?
I'm curious to know your regimen and what products you use. How long have you been rollersetting weekly?

Hairlove, your hair is pretty. Nice rollerset! I especially loved pic 5 right before you flatironed. The curls looked amazing.

I don't flatiron my roots at all, they get pretty straight with this method. On occassion if they don't turn out just right I will use a blowdryer on a warm setting but I rarely ever have to.

My regimen is simple. I wash with Elucence MB shampoo and condition with Elucence MB conditioner. Sometimes I will alternate conditioners and use Alter Ego Moisturizing & Rebalancing Cream, or Alter Ego Garlic Conditioner, both work well with the MB shampoo. I find the trick to having straight roots for me is to apply a dab of oil to the roots while you have the conditioner in your hair, then put on a cap for 20-30 minutes. I only have to do this in the back where my hair is a bit stubborn. I use no specific type of oil, whatever I have on hand. I rinse, apply Fantasia IC, Tigi BedHead to my ends only a light coat of oil all over for shine and moisture retention, then wetset. I've been rollersetting on and off for years and this works well for me.

BTW, I love your hair.HTH

hairlove, your rollerset is beautiful!! i think i will try to do this tonight, granted i have 4a hair so it will be interested to see how it turns out!

joyous, do you mean the fantasia ic moisturizer, i can't think of the exact name but i remember seeing a moisturizer in that line of products.

I mean the leave-in, Fantasia Inter Cellular(IC) Leave-In Hair and Scalp Treatment. This is the name I got directly off the bottle. There was a thread on this that was bumped not to long ago. Either you love this or hate it. Some people says it leaves there hair feeling a little hard for me it works wonders. It really leaves my hair strong and I've been using it for many years on my fine, thin hair. A key point is not to over saturate the hair with it or else you will get that hard feeling. I'll see if I can find that thread.HTH

Just gorgeous. What products did you use on your hair when you rollerset it?

I used Lottabody setting lotion diluted in a bottle. I also used WGO on each end before I rolled it. My leave-ins were Thermasilk and Silken Seal. I washed with Elucence and deep conditioned with Kenra MC.

I agree with everyone. It really looks great! Do you think I can do it with 4b hair?

The only thing I can say is give it a try! Buy your supplies at Sally's so that if it doesn't work out, you can return it. Other than that, you have nothing to lose other than maybe 3-4 hours of your time!! That's really what convinced me to try it. Even as I was halfway finished, I almost gave up and said forget it. But I kept going and I'm so glad I did!

Thank you joyous!! I wondered - is there a trick to getting the roots straighter? I'd like to keep improving my skills!

Thanks for posting this thread and your pix, hairlove. I've always been scared to use a flat iron, but if I can get the same results as you, I may not relax my hair ever again!

The trick to getting your roots straight is to roll thin sections of hair and pull it taut when you stick the pins in the roller. This works for me *unless* it's hot and humid, then my roots puff up by the end of the day. That's the only reason why I continue to relax.

How do you manage to keep your hair smooth in this weather?

I don't go outside very much in the summer. Only to get in and out of my car, walk my dog, go to work, errands etc. I don't "hang out" in the hot weather. Additionally, I live in a dry climate so I don't have to worry too much about humidity. But the heat does make me sweat which is why I only use outside as a means to an end!

When I lived in a humid climate, I had relaxed hair and I used Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade. My hair NEVER poofed. It was also relaxed bone straight.
