OMG, what is going on?

I'm afraid that is going to be all the darn length that I have gained!!

has anyone else had this problem?

BTW: I washed and conditioned today and my hair airdrying....That's all that was gone to it...

I DC ORS Hair Mayo....

Yes, my ends are breaking off.... :( It's like I'm literally pulling them out....! :( :(

Maybe you should do a quick CW or one lather with a moisturizing shampoo. I always follow my DC with something moisturizing or I end up in big trouble. Did you airdry straight down?

I airdryed in two buns....

This has happened before as well....This is my first time using the ORS Mayo....

Any product suggestions or suggestions about why it may be doing that....

I know that ORS Mayo has protein in it. Is it possible that you've been using too much protein lately?

Yeah, it might be the protein. Did you use a moisturizing conditioner after? And like someone said, a CW might help too.

No, I didn't...Next wash I'm gonna try out my NTM DDC...i used it once...It didn't wow me, but 2nd time may be the charm....But like I said this has happened before...and I THINK I WAS USING A PROTEIN PRODUCT!!! ERGGHH, that may be the culprit. That and the fact I haven't been taking as good care to the ends as I should....

I need something that is pure moisture? i think even my beloved Elasta QP Mango butter has protein....

Some people's hair don't like protein at all. This might be the case with you. My hair on the other hand, craves and loves it. LOL.

For moisturizing the ends, have you tried the NTM leave-in? I use this and follow with WGO on my ends. HTH.

S-curl is good too for providing moisture. If your into protective styling, you could do the baggie method for a while just so that you won't have to manipulate with your hair.

Do you usually airdry? This could be the culprit. I'm beginning to think my ends don't like airdrying b/c of this:(

Update, I trimmed off of these ragged ends!!!! this is setback city for me but they were driving me nuts!!!!

How long has it been? I just recently read a post on here about your not suppose to comb your ends if hair is airdried b/c they will shed, break or whatever. I wished I'd known that sooner:( I hope you figure out what's causing your problem

if i look for bad ends and find one, i yank it out! thats why i put scissors in my office and in my bedroom. the more u search and snip them individually, the thicker and split/break free your hair becomes

My thread on Knowing your Stretching Limits is about the same thing.
I was told that I may need more protein because it might have too much moisture.

I am afraid of losing the little length that I have.

ElleB I am having the same problem with my ends. I can just touch them with my fingers and I get some breakage. I have a feeling it's because of the previous heat damage, but then I figured the whole head should be like that. I was also using Elasta QP Mango Butter on my ends and it seem to cause immediate breakage. so this week I have been doing the baggy method at night with Hairobics hair and scalp booster. It has been better but I'll have better results in a week or so. :ohwell:

I have that same problem!! It seems that I can't even touch my hair without pulling some out in my hand. I tired the thing where I just wear the low manipulation styles and not comb it but yet again when I run my fingers through my hair I pull out a lot of strands. I think that this is the reason that my hair is stuck at one length. I am constantly having to clip my ends because they always look so raggedy.

YES! that is how it is with me...And i am not a frequent heat user, NEVER BEEN...But the ends ARE the oldest part of our hair...So maybe that is y...I'm gonna try sleeping in a baggie! And I have been doing Mango butter on the ends too! and I still get breakage!

ElleB let me know if the baggy method helped your hair. i took my bag off this morning and my hair feels great and it has a nice healthy shine to it. I'll let you know how it is next week.:)

How much E-QP mango butter are you using? I had to learn that less is more with that stuff. When I had problems with it I had to do a little investigating into why it was doing what it did. (because I really do like it except when I go overboard) Since I have known issue with olive oil, I found that one of the top ingredients is actually derived from it.

Ingredients:
Purified Water Aqua , Squalane Olive Oil Derived , Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride Coconut Oil Derived , PEG-75 Lanolin , Behntrimonium Methosulfate , Hexadecanol , Cetearyl Alcohol , Ceterareth-20 , Dimethicone , Phenyl Trimethicone , Mangifera Indica Seed Butter Mango , Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter Cocoa , Hydrolyzed Silk , Serica , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Butylparaben , Fragrance , FD&C Yellow #5 CI 19140

Even though I do like it, I have to use small amounts (like nickle size) because it can make my hair brittle and crunchy if I use too much. I can't use straight olive oil because of the same thing.

How do I do the baggie method?

Girl I had this EXACT same problem.

So I clarified, followed with a moisturizing poo and deep conditioner!

Girl the breakage is gone.

Try clarifying, then shampooing with a moisturizing, poo and then deep condition.

Recs for clarifying poo, poo, and conditioner (salon lines)-Aveda Detox, Keracare Detangling poo, Keracare Humecto

Recs for drugstore products-V05 kiwi lime squeeze, Creme of nature poo (detangling), and NTM daily deep conditioner

ITA you probabley have buildup.

Hi ElleB,
it sounds like you have overdosed on protein, coupled with the fact that you use the Elasta Mango Butter, which is very drying. I noticed that you have cut off your breaking ends, but if you continue using too much protein and the mango butter you will still have the same problem.

I would concentrate on moisture and avoid protein and the mango butter. If you use protein always remember to use a moisturising conditioner afterwards. I find that the ORS Mayonnaise is too heavy for CW. Your hair was already dry from the ORS and then you added a moisturiser which zapped any moisture left. ORS Olive Oil is a great water-based moisturiser or the Parnevu Carrot Oil. Using either of these and then sealing with an oil will lock in moisture without leaving your hair greasy. You can also use these for the baggie method, it strengthens the products properties and super-moisturises.
