Ladies,

I have not pressed my hair in 4 month, this is because back in May I did the big scorch and all most took my whole left side. Since, I've been wearing my hair in the natural (not chemically treated). Went to press it Saturday and to my surprise the press didn't take :( :( I've tried using the flat iron (stove method) and nothing works. Any ideas or suggestions. Cause I'm walking around here lookin like I got cotton balls all over my head.

So why did you attempt to press it again? I messed up my hair by getting it pressed. I have been scared to try it again. I can't offer any help except to say back away from the heat. Your hair doesn't like the heat and is reacting accordingly.

I think you should let a pro press your hair it doesnt seem like you know how to press hair and watch to see what they are doing when their pressing, especially older stylists with lots of experience. :look: just my 2 cents.

Hey, I had that same problem awhile back with my hair and you might want to have a professional do a "hard-press" on your hair. My hair still doesn't get "bone straight", but it is much straighter when I allow a professional to press it.

Also my hair presses better when I use castor oil. If you are using carrot, olive or shea butter the press do not take to those kind of mouisturizers.

i agree. i think you should let a professional do it. after years of getting my hair pressed by a professional she never burnt my hair. then one day i decided to do it myself and i lost a lot of hair in the front. so i think it's better that you go to a hairdresser.

What about roller setting your hair and flat ironing it? It seems like that would be less damaging than pressing.

I agree. Not too long ago, I tried to press a few strands of my very curly hair with an electrical pressing comb. What happened? My hair didn't get near to straight like it had a long time ago. It just got silkier and the curls got looser and bigger like I had used a big curling iron, but nowhere near to straight. I think it's easier to press hair after rollersetting, or after blow drying, or after combing out all the curls.

I prefer the stove and i recently bought a wide-toothed pressing comb my old one from yrs ago(high school) was bent. Most pros use the stove too with all those comb sizes and curler sizes. I never really cared for electric combs. I probably will not press until next year. Roller setting first sounds like a good idea if your going to give yourself a warm press afterwards i guess if you dont want too much heat. :)
edited to say i was talking about the plug in stove by gold n hot not the kitchen stove.

Thanks ladies for all of your responses I think in the future I will resort to letting a professional press my hair. ;) ;) ;)

Mecca - To answer your question I would like to switch between the two. Because of the big burn out in May it left me unable to wear my hair straighten so I've just been sporting my little bun every since. :D

I agree with FBS, I would just leave this to the pros. :)
