I\'m not a virgin anymore

Well as far as hair is concerned...heheh

I decided to end my year being natural and I got a relaxer last week. My hair was getting tangled and I just felt it wasn't me, but I was happy I made the choice to relax and not say it as something I was suppose to do.

However now, I don't know what to do with my hair. My hair is 2 to 2.5 inches all over so it looks like a layered cut. So I just wash it and flip the ends. I set it in foam rollers every night. I spray my ends with cream of nature liquid leave in before rolling. In the morning, I use elasta qp mango butter creme.

However my hair is still dry, I don't think the stylist neutralized my hair after relaxing. She used bantu ( i believe that a no lye relaxer).

This weekend I was my hair myself with Optimium care mosituring shampoo, deep condition with lekair, and use infusium 23 as a leave in.

I plan to do this regimen weekly or go to the salon for a wash and set.

Wash with Optimum
deep condition with lekair pink
use Infusium to leavin and air dry.

When I airdried my hair felt fine, but one I use the curling iron on low to style my hair felt dry and funny.

Any suggestions as to what i can do for the dryness? I don't want to use the curling iron ( heat is bad) every week but I at a lost for styling my hair.

Also what protective styles or methods I can use on my hair? My ends weren't clipped so they still knotty as they were before I relaxed. Wetting them everyday is not helping either. My hair is too short for a pony tail to use a faux piece.

any suggestions for products or mositure retention would be helpful?

Also are the products and regimen I'm using okay also?

For those New Yorkers: anyone has any suggestions for a good stylist in the bronx or manhattan- I am willing to travel. I can't return to a women who didn't neutralize my hair. Also I think I want to use a lye relaxer, how I can transition relaxers. I know it not good to switch. But I don't plan to relax for about 10 to 12 weeks for now. I'm going to try and push it.

Re: I\'m not a virgin anymore

How about wet wraps? When I had my short cut, I lived by them and did not have to worry about dry hair. I used KeraCare Wrap foam which is VERY conditioning and helps seal in moisture (a lot better than most wrap foams outt here) I didn't mind flat hair, so I would wrap and comb out and bee good to go. KeraCare all together was an EXCELLENT line for my relaxed hair...

You can try wet wrapping early in the evening and letting dry overnight if you don't want to use a hooded dryer.

I think your products are ok, you may want to include a proteing conditioner. Just be gentle with your hair and don't abuse it and I think you should be allright. I think you should be ok with switching relaxers your next go round. What happened that makes you think she didn't neutralize your hair?

I think wet wraps is an excellent idea especially with your hair length. It shouldn't take long to dry at all. Good luck!

Re: I\'m not a virgin anymore

I didn't see the neutralizing shampoo. she used the same shampoo to was my hair and it has a fragrance. From my memory neutralizers didn;t have a fragrance. I could had asked here but I was concentraing on my scalp burning. Yeah wasn't fun to feel that again because the haor around my edges were thin so it touch my scalp easier there.

My hair is too short to wrap and it not in a cut style ( if it was shaved in the back I would do a wet wrap) so it looks really cheap if I was to do that for my hair length. It would look as if I'm tryin gto mimick a wrap and i can't have that look at my coporate job. But thanks.

Re: I\'m not a virgin anymore

Why not taper (I know shaving is hard to grow out) the back for now then?

It will probably make your growout much less frustrating for you.

Re: I\'m not a virgin anymore

I'm almost postivite bantu is lye.
Speaking of bantu, you have enough hair to make little bantu knots. When they dry just separate with your fingers, put some barrettes on one side of your hair (or use a headband) and your done. A nice, no heat style.

Re: I\'m not a virgin anymore

You should try flat twists in the front of your hair. Use accessories. Have bangs sometimes. Make different parts. Use spray on hair color. Use perm rods instead of a curling iron. Better yet, I think you could do a rollerset. It sounds like you can do a lot with your hair!

Oh Shinka I loved your natural hair pics.

Back to the subject at hand, the shampoo she used may have had the right Ph to neutralize your hair, but it just had a smell. Even Creme of Nature can be used as a neutralizing shampoo because of it's Ph as can Elucence's MB Shampoo.

I don't know what to tell you about styling because most people I know with short relaxed hair do heat style.

Re: I\'m not a virgin anymore

thanks ladies I forgot about the bantu sets and flat twist. and perm rods. I think I differently try those. I put some curl activator creme before the elasta mango and my hair felt much better.

I think this weekend I get the front twisted and bantu twist the back to have a curly style.
