As long as my hair continues to act a fool. My hair is getting to be a beast to detangle lately. I've been dc'ing moisturizing and sealing weekly and the last couple of weeks my hair has not felt 100%. I'm off to "reboot" my hair by clarifying and maybe a ACV rinse. Any suggestions?

lmao!! your siggy!! lol..wow who knew that was possible.

I know how you feel. I am going through the same thing with my hair. These single strand knots makes me want to take some clippers to my head and start over.

Why not put your hair in a ps like braiding or a weave until your next touch up? This way, you wouldn't have to deal with daily detangling.

what products are you usig to detagle, i know how you feel too, dont know why APl is soooo HARd to make anyway :wallbash:

I feel your pain. Your siggy is too funny!!! You can cornrow your hair though. That's what I'm doing. I'm leaving it in for a week and then taking it from there. I feel about the fake hair thing, not for me either.

Girl,

I know exactly how you feel. :spinning: So how long have you been trying to reach APL? How many more inches do you have? and what timeframe is your goal? I have 3.5 inches and it couldn't be taking any slower.

It sounds like your more frustrated with the way your hair is acting rather than the actual length... Let me know what's up!!!

I used CON green label and usually my hair all soft and no tangles. Today, my hair put up a revolt! I dc-ed with lustrasilk shea butter chol. and my hair felt like a freaking brillo pad. It felt like I had done a protein tx and did not moisturize after. I clarified, ACV rinse and used my giovanni deep moisture with evoo and sat under the dryer. My hair feel better and I will be rocking the bun until relaxer time. The raggedy ends are a mess too. I dusted Fri and some today. I give. I can't win for losing....

i dont know OP, i never clarify, i cowash mostly an then when i think i need to really clean my hair, i just shampoo.i take it youre relaxed right? are you wearing your hair out a lot too? i wear buns most of the time. i know what you mean about fake hair too, i've never done it , but i'm considering it just to make this APL, it will come, just give it time:yep:

I used to have detangling issues. So what I did was:

  • Condition hair in four sections
  • DC w/ heat for 30 mins, let it cool, add some more conditioner
  • Get into shower and gently detangle each section from ends to root with a shower comb
  • Allow water to flow onto hair as needed while detangling
I lose much less hair now. For some reason, the first time I detangled in shower, I did lose a lot of hair. Now I don't...??? :yep:

Awww, sista, don't give up... I know it is cliche (im cringing over here) but it is the calmest before the storm/darkest before dawn... You are fighting the good fight, and all your efforts will pay off...

And the trippy thing is you are using all my products (80's neckroll) and having issues - so, i'm thinking maybe you might need to tweak/utilize your back up methods? I am new to the board, so I don't want to make it seem like I have a PhD in Hurr Degree, but you know what I mean.

The bun sounds like a good idea; it's cute, fast & neat. And I didnt catch if you are stretching or not, but the time will fly...

Don't lose heart:cup:You have the victory!

Have you thought about switching your products for a while? I know that sometimes my hair and body gets used to a certain product after using it for an extended period.:ohwell: When I switch it up with something different and then go back to the original product after a few months, it seems to work again. HTH.

I completely agree (well said lilanie) and I Definitley feel your pain!! I went throught the same problems trying to get to APL and I'm still going through it trying to get to BSL. You just have to hang in there....you'll get there so don't quit. It may take longer than you want (doesn't it always) but just keep pushing!! This is just a thought .... instead of using a clarifying shampoo which can be drying, try mixing a little baking soda in your hand with the shampoo and wash with that. That's what I use to clarify and it works like a charm but you have to make sure that you follow up with conditioner. I find that it's milder than any clarifying shampoo, it does the job and you get to keep some money in your pocket.

Do you detangle in sections? Does this happen more when wet or when dry? I highly recommend Kinky Curly's KNOT today. I'm 4a/3c "natural" (I have 100% reversion)... more 4a than 3c and it was EXCELLENT.

I feel your pain girl, I'm going thru the same thing (waiting for APL) but I won't give up because I want it so bad.

It only get tangled when wet. I tell ya, it's a conspiracy!

When I stretch I do an oil rinse it helps with the tangles. I co wash with HE HH then apply the oil sit under the heating cap for 15 minutes then I apply a deep conditioner NTM, sit back under the heating cap for 45-60 minutes then I spray Mane and Tail Detangler as I comb through my hair. It works very well.

I'm going to assume you detangle on hair with creamy conditioner that has slip. If not, that's the most important thing to do (imo). You may also want to add oil to the condish or your hair beforehand.

So here are my other suggestions:

* Detangle in sections. I do at least four sections. It's easier to deal with hair when you have a small section to work with at a time. When I wash and condition, I also do it in four sections.

* Try hot oil treatments and baggying overnight a few times a week

* Bentonite clay treatments have helped make my natural hair more manageable

* If you're getting frustrated, protective style for a short while because you have less patience with your hair and become a bit too rough with it. However, I believe it is best to work this issue through (if you're not too frustrated) because it may still exist (or return) once you stop PS'ing anyway.

eta: I also find stepping up my co-washing and adding an extra DC has helped a great deal.

HTH :)

And another thing (finger wigglin')

I just wanted you to know; I'd wrestle a grizzly right now for your thickness and length. Halle/Malinda Williams/Mary all have mo' hurr than me right now - so I have a good six months before I dare try any kind of bun, but I will get there...

Keep posting pictures, because it is easier (sometimes) to for progress/lack thereof to be determined by third parties than a self assessment...

Do you use any accessories like bumpits, or that spider-looking comb-barrette in your hair?

Do you mush your hair together when you're washing it? Don't
Do you wash it in the sink with your head upsidedown? Don't
Have you ever tried Kid ORganics Detangling lotion? Do.

And don't worry you'll reach APL. just be patient.

Try silk amino acids for your protein.

I agree with the Kid's Organics Detangling Lotion. It gives alot of slip, and should make it easier to get the comb through without ripping hair.

And I don't know if this is bad advice, but maybe you should try another shampoo. You said that you had to clarify often because of hard water, but clarifying shampoos can be a little rough on the hair because it strips, so maybe your hair is knotting up because of that. Maybe switching to a chelating shampoo, because those remove mineral buildup and not product buildup, will be better for your hair.

Lastly, I feel your pain about APL....it's funny how I never realized just how much distance lay between a shoulder and an armpit until I started trying to grow some hair. But you can do it! All you need is gentleness and patience! (So much easier said than done, I know) :look:
