Hi there!
Can somebody post a few links or direct me?

I'm currently wearing a 4a/b natural twa that I'm thinking of growing out. I was previously natural for about 9 months a year ago, but it became too tiresome to detangle my thick hair. I got tired of the long twist sessions. I grew bored of the hairband fro look too.

Maybe I haven't really even decided if I want to stay natural or not. I'm just busy researching my options right now. The only drawbacks to texturizing that I see are 1) It's somthing that must be reapplied every month in order to prevent breakage at the demarcation line and 2) I'm trying to cover a few gray spots I'm not sure if the color (rinse or perm) would interfere with the mild relaxer.

The only album that I've seen so far is that of Isis. Her hair is gorgeous!

ps. I'm not really looking for a perfectly curly wash and go style. I actually like a more bushy/thick look. Just wash and add a product for moisture and blow dry it. It will 'look' almost natural, but will be easier to detangle without having to twist it to stretch it out. I would also be able to wear a braid or twist out too. Sounds easy enough lol.....but I might be wrong.

any feedback is welcomed! : ))

whatever I decide, I'll make sure to start a photo album.

I'm texturized and it makes my life so easy!:) I only do them about 2-3 times a year (not every month). When I detangle my hair I use a JILBERE shower comb which really helps with tangles. When it's time for a touch-up I do co-washes every other day, this really helps with the two textures. I can do my braidouts with relative ease. You can definately do color with texturizers because your hair is not completely straight and the bonds are not completely broken down. I would do a rinse (like jazzing) or do semi-permanent or permanent. THe only thing is if you put on a color you must do so 2 weeks after a texturizer and you must give your hair a lot of TLC (deep treatments, moisturizing treatments and moisturize ). Check out my member album and you'll see an example of my braidout...look for Alli77. Go to my fotki album and you'll see the results of my texturized look, here's the link www.fotki.com/nubian7 password is hair.

Hey Aquamarine:)

I have 4A/4B texturized hair and I love it. You don't have to reapply a texturizer every month. If you should do that your hair will be severely damaged. A texturizer can be done every 2-3 months or more. Right now I am trying to see if I can go without texturizing for 6 months to see if I can gain some more growth. All you have to do is keep your hair moisturized and protected at all times to prevent breakage. I am not sure if the color or rinse would interfere with the mild relaxer. Maybe some other texturized ladies with color could assist you with that issue.

I think if you texturize your hair it will be much more manageable than having natural hair although texturized hair can become very thick. But whatever you decide to do with your hair good luck.

I'm texturized. My hair is 4a/b and I do touch ups every 10-12 weeks. With each touch up, I try to stretch it an extra week to see what will happen to my hair. I mostly keep my hair in ponytails because I am still looking for the perfect product for my hair to leave it out and curly. I condition wash my hair every Saturday when in a ponytail and for those rare days when I decide to wear my hair out, I condition wash every three days. I find texturized hair waaaay easier for me to deal with. I transitioned from relaxed hair in Oct. 2003 to July 2004 where I did the big chop. I tried to handle my natural hair for a couple weeks and got impatient with it and I texturized that same month. Its been a difficult but fun learning experience ever since. I find that taking photos constantly of my hair has helped me on those days when I feel a little discouraged. When I look back and see how far I've come, I get excited about where I am going all over again. I say give texturizing a try. This is one of the few chemicals where you actually have control. If you don't want it too straight, don't leave it in too long. All in all, I wish you the best. I have pictures in my photo album for you to see my experiences with texturizing. :)

Ginsana,

I've been looking at the albums of yourself and some other texturized heads for quite some time now, but here lately there's been a lot of fuss regarding texturizing. :(

Do you regret ever texturizing your hair?
When you do a touch-up, do you apply the product to all of the hair? :perplexed

I think your hair looks really good and healthy, but I was just wondering if you had to do it all over again, would you stick to the natural tresses?

I have mostly 4b texturized hair. It is not as strong as my natural hair...watch out because this is a side effect for many.

A texturizer is just a light relaxer. It's permanent. It doesn't wear off. If you apply all over every time you retouch you are asking for disaster, just like if you put perm all over your hair at every retouch. You only do the new growth.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to see this thread again. I thought it was buried for eternity lol.

Since it's here, I'm posting an update. I went ahead and texturized my hair this month. Of course, the first try didn't come out 'relaxed':look: enough, so I reapplied another mild lye (cream of nature mixed with conditioner and olive oil). So far, it feels very soft and it still has the natural crinkly waves from root to tip....only slightly stretched out a bit more.

These are my findings after doing a little experimenting: Combing after washing is definatly easier and that's what I was aiming for....less detangling time and a look that I could wash and go (if I wanted to) without having to twist to set it. Just a dab of product and I'm out the door. When my hair air-dries with no product, it looks very natural....only softer to the touch. When I blow dry it, it becomes a soft fro. When I put a dab of gel on it, it dried a bit hard, so I'm not gonna do that again unless I want to slick it back for a phony pony or something. I love putting my hand in it to feel my crinkles and coils.

Dark side: sigh....I'm still feeling guilty for not being able to claim the 100 percent natural label anymore. Matters not that my hair LOOKS natural because I know that I've altered it.:ohwell: I don't feel AS bad knowing that I didn't completly relax all of the texture out of my hair, but still.

My plan is to not put another texturizer/relaxer on my hair for at least another 2 months or more even though my hair seems to grow very fast. For styling options as it grows, I look forward to trying the bantu knot set for a little wave without the use of heat. As I gain more new growth, I might experiment with touching up the roots with a warm flat iron/comb (with tons of heat protectant on clean hair! ) to help me stretch the texturizers even longer......then who knows.....maybe one day, I might realize that I've transitioned to being 80-100 percent natural again. As for now, I do plan on seeing how long my hair will grow with the texturizer.
