I want to know 1) If I can add my own stuff to the powder mix like EOs or Lime Juice (I saw this stuff on hennaforhair.com)
2) Will it harm my hair or turn my hair a whole other dramatic color because I have hilites in my hair??

Those who have "Hennaed" before please give me some tips because I'm going to do this thing tomorrow!

Good luck......
I've done it twice, but haven't achieved my color yet. I add lemon juice and olive oil to the paste.

Even though I say I'm gonna add lemon juice, I have no idea why!! Ummm, so why did you add the juice and olive oil??

Thanks Diivine...Any more tips or suggestions before I Henna my hair this afternoon??? Please??

Make sure you don't make the paste too thick or too thin. The first time I did it I didn't have enough b/c it was too thick. Don't worry about the smell, and be prepared to have it sit on yo hair for a while. What color are you going for ? and don't expect extreme changes in the color.

I put henna in my hair awhile back and it was a total distaster. I used Rainbow henna in Auburn shade. I mixed my henna with lemon juice, coconut oil, water and mixed till was thick and runny like pancake batter. I washed my hair first before applying my henna and I applied it using a paintbrush so I can get to my roots. After applying, I threw on a plastic cap and let it soak in overnight..yes, I slept with that gunk on my head overnight..big mistake.
In the morning, I rinsed that stuff out and my hair was so tangled and matted I thought I was gonna loose all my hair. It took me a total of 3 hours to detangle my hair (thank God with no breakage) and after that I noticed no visible results from it, no softness or color change....just a waste of time on my part. I will never again use henna.

Hello, I use henna about every other month. I think its Hennalucent I buy at the BSS. I usually mix a brown shade with a black one. I mix the dry powder and whip up about 1/2 of the mixture per application.
I love this stuff mostly because it's natural, but I have old dry red ends that I refuse to chop off and I am growing it out gradually trimming them off. In the mean time I use the henna to give me even hair color throughout. It gradually washes out over several weeks, then it's time to reapply. It also is a great protien conditioner.
I mix the powder with HOT water, stirr until it has a thick pudding-like consistancy (maybe a bit thinner), let it cool to just warm, and smear throughout my entire head. Yep it's messy! I always wear house cleaning or yard work clothes. Wrap my hair in a plastic bag or plastic disposable cap, and then wrap all that under a clean "rag" towel ( a towel I would use to wash the car or clean spots from the rug) for about 1 hour. I do this in the bathroom over the sink where I can rinse any drippings away. It will stain everything it touches. I use regular bathroom cleaner to remove any stains from off the counter.
Conditioning wise, I may add some coconut or palm oil, but never thought to add lemon juice.

Thanks for all your words of experience ladies....I put the henna in my hair Colora Henna in Mahogany...I thought it would tint my hair color, but what it did was turn my really old red highlights that I put in my hair a long long time ago back to red....it was like someone turned a light on my highlights again...they actually look really cool even though I expect my entire head to be in one color....I kept it in my hair for an hour..it was pretty messy and green. My little brother thought I doodooed all over myself (he's 4) so I had to explain to him why I had "doodoo" all over me.

I think for the future, I'll use it again because the red highlights look really bright and fresh now. I believe that in order for you to see any visible results, it's better if you had some previous color in your hair from before.

Thanks Ladies and there are pics. in my album to see the results.. :)

By the way, my natural hair color is Jet Black in case you were wondering...

My hair is tinted that color, but its looks nice. I leave my in for four hours though. I' the opposite of you, and plan on putting jet black dye in my hair. I just hope I don't look washed out.
