hey ladies im texlaxing. i'm not going to explain why cuz its MY life and MY hair and unless you wake up every morning to do it dont worry about it MY decision  ghandi said BE the change you want to see in the world, not be it AND harass other people :lachen:
anywho i called the guy at the salon and he said they use a special relaxer thats a lot weaker than the usual so idk if i should just do a protein treatment the day b4 or 2 days b4 or put a protein conditioner on my hair and let it air dry and then do it? could u ladies help me out?!! even if you can provide links that would be helpful. TIA

I wouldn't wash or do a protein treatment so close to relaxer day....and if you want to texlax maybe it would be safer to do it on your own. Unless your stylist has a clear understanding on the difference between texlaxing and bone straight relaxing

I think you should do a protein treatment a week before to strengthen your hair to prep for the chemicals. After the service, perhaps you could use something mild when you go home like eggs, mayo then DC.

And I definitely agree with the above poster-- make sure you have a clear understanding with the hair dresser on how much curl you want to remain

Good luck!

I agree that you should do it at least 1 week before your visit.

Also, ask the stylist to explain to you what they understand is your desired goal. People are quick to say "yes" when you ask if they know what you mean, although they don't fully understand. So unless they can tell you what they see as your goal AND how to achieve it, then I would be weary of what they might end up doing. You only get ONE shot at a virgin relaxer, so its vital that it goes well. Good luck.

thanks ladies! im too scared to relax my own hair. i did my moms and it came out horrible and underprocessed in some parts and straight in others. ill probably go in there before hand and do a consultation

so defensive!! lol

anywho i wouldnt wash for probably 3 days or so before the relaxer and perhaps use a good clairifying poo so there is nothing in the way of the chemical and the hair. if ur doin a protien i agree you should do it abt a week before.

yeah sorry but in previous posts people voice their oppinions too much and iv had to put them in their place so to save all that i just did it in the OP. thanks i didnt think to clarify, so protein treatment a week before and then 4 days later clarify?? ok i think i got it lol

to be honest im not sure in which order the protien/clarify thing goes :perplexed but im sure someone will chime in if thats not correct.

i think if u do a protien like a week before, but end up using any products after that that may coat the hair, you may want to do a clarifying at least three days prior. i would make sure in the days before you are not combing/brushing your hair too much or scratching at your scalp as it can lead to major irritation.

Tell it girl! Tell it!!

I am Lightly Relaxing myself soon, I will still have my curls but my hair will hold moisture better and remain soft, so I will be a stretcher!

Glad you came to a decision. Welcome to the world of texlaxing!

What is he using to texlax your hair and how long is he going to leave the perm on for?
That is important to the different degrees of texlaxed hair that you have. If you look at the pic in my siggy, I can pass as a natural because I only leave the relaxer on for 8-10 minutes before I rinse and neutralize.

I love my hair because it's easier to straighten and it can revert back to curly just by washing! The versatility is amazing and IMHO texlaxing is the best way to go!

Keep me updated! I hope things go well for you!

thanks you guys! yeah i was gonna go in today and see if he has any proof that he has done these. if i dont see pics im walkin out! thanks for the link danell, im about to print them out now!

its your decision girl so go for it...

I think you should clarify and do a protein treatment a week before, but then i also think you should coat your hair with a lot of grease/vaseline/oil before the chemical is applied to the hair.
This slows down the relaxer and gives the texlax look. However, this also depends on the strength of the relaxer you are using so its good to research this before hand.

When i used to texlax, i always used the soft and beautiful texture softner, which is a very mild relaxer that enables you to choose your desired curl pattern.. its a fool proof way of acheiving texlaxed results...

ITA. Also, if you end up too straight, doing a hard protein treatment within 24 hours is your best bet for regaining some curl. Think ApHogee.

you might want to move your appt to a later date to give yourself time to properly prepare your hair. like another poster said you have ONE shot to get it right. maybe you should give yourself about a month to research and prepare your hair. that way you can build up the strength in your hair doing protein and moisture treatments. you want your hair in the best shape possible before the texlax.

as far as the procedure, some people mix a conditioner/oil into the relaxer and leave it on for half the recommened time.

some people coat the hair with a protein condish the night before then relax either half the time or the full time

some people only apply the relaxer but don't smooth it

some people relax in sections

some people do a light protein/reconstructor after rinsing but before neutralizing (some people don't because their hair reverts if they do this)

there are so many options that it's best to do a strand test

when i was doing my first texlax, i saved hair from my comb from different sections of hair and tested out how long to leave it on. i have different textures on my head so they needed different times

do a search on "texlax support thread", "conditioning before neutralzing", "how to prepare for a relaxer", "Curve's silkener secret", etc

there are lots of threads out there

i've never used real dye before but i have used henna and indigo. i heard that you shouldn't color and relax on the same day. i think you should relax first then wait a few weeks to color with real dye. if you have just recently used real dye i would hold off on relaxing for a while.

henna is a different story. as long as you're using body quality henna you should be fine. but you might want to wait at least 2 weeks after relaxing before using henna also because it is a protein. since you are texlaxing your hair it could cause it to revert some.

The texture softner worked great for me in the past. I had no idea how to retouch and ended up relaxed. They key to keeping your texture is to not to comb the softner through like a relaxer. Your hair will end up strait. You can use a semi perm color after you apply the softner as well. I think I'll be using it in the future.:yep:
