So I've been lurking for awhile and finally joined.Nicki but CUTES has been my screen name for the last ten + years lol.I'm in the process of regrowing my hair back to waist length.I really don't know my hair type and haven't gotten a steady routine going yet.My hair used to be really long and really thick. But now as you can see it's not..........After years of getting my hair pressed I let a so called friend of mine put a perm in my hair.Needless to say she put a super perm on my virgin hair and it's been downhill since then.My hair has been through alot of abuse and I glad I still have any at all. It's been set on fire twice(also by so called friends)Bleached, permed, used as practice for the beauty schools. No longer long nor thick..I know my hair has been negelected for the last few years,so I'm now I'm on a healthy hair journey.Once I figure out how to post pics I'll post a before pic of how I want my hair to be once again...:perplexed

Welcome Cutes! I believe that you can get your hair to where you want to be and these lovely ladies have the best advice. Welcome again!!!!

Welcome Cutes! Your story sounds close to mine...grew up pressing, relaxed my hair without really knowing much about relaxers. There are so many ladies here that maintain healthy relaxed hair, so it's definitely possible!

Welcome CUTES!! I know that you'll reach your goals again. I was natural for years due to "a friend" who put Motions regular relaxer in my hair, and most of it fell out. I decided to relax again just last year. Just coming here and having a good support system, learning about overall health and wellness has done wonders for me. I'm a newbie, too, but I've gained so much knowledge, more about hair than in a lifetime!

You'll be just fine and will reach your goals in no time!;)

 Welcome, I am a newbe myself but had spent so many hours in here that it feels like it's been months already:D

There are so many great/beautiful ladies sharing their knowledge in here that it will be impossible no to get your hair where you want it to be.

Thanks for the welcome ladies. My routine was so simple when I was younger.....my aunt would wash, condition, blow dry and press my hair every two weeks. All she would use was Optimum Shampoo and conditioner. Nothing before blow drying or pressing.A little pressing cream and hair gloss afterwards. The only other thing she used was apple cider vinegar. Which at the time I had a fit about because I was young and back then wouldn't let anyone put anything in my hair.My granny would use liv on my scalp every night and brush my hair 100 times 50 before I went to school and 50 more before bed.She would also braid it every night. It was that simple THEN.Now that my hair is so damaged I don't know where to begin.I haven't had a perm since I was about 19.Didn't get them on a regular basis probably a total of five in the years I got them.I would just wash my hair and brush it into a ponytail. For about three years straight.I did that along with slicking it back with gel.All the time adding more and more damage.I found myself in the mirror one day asking the question everyone I grew up had been asking.WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR(MY)HAIR.I finally have my hair growing some.I'm thinking I need more moisture but I could need more protein.I can't find the right balance yet..........

a pic of me when I was younger(week and a half old press )lol i was 11 or 12 in that

Welcome! I think it's safe to say that many of use here have had our own hair disaters. My hair is very damaged due to the use of super relaxers and too frequent hair color. In this forum I've found so much useful information and I have been able to slowly nurse it back to health. I wish you the best of luck and once again welcome.:)

Hi!

I don't know where i'm supposed to be posting my introduction, but this seems like a reasonable place so i'll just post it here. I've been coming here looking at all the info and pics and decided to join so this is my intro post. I don't have a down pat routine yet, but i'm in the process of developing one. I cut off all my relaxed hair a while ago and was natural for a while then I put a texturizer in it and then cut it again. So now I have a little afro that's completely natural and i'm using the crown and glory technique with braids to grow it out. Hopefully when i take these braids out i will have a digital camera with which to post pics and get it pressed to see how long it is, but stretched it's shoulder length in the back. I believe my hair type is some sort of weird combo between 3c in the back and then changing to 4a, 4b in the front, if that makes any sense. it's very curly in the back and then slowly changes to more frizz/ less curl in the front. The routine I use right now is I wash it daily with conditioner and then deep condition it weekly, all in the braids. After washing I spray it with infusium and oil it with wild growth, doo gro, and the mega growth oil. Some changes I am making is I will be staring a vitamin regimin with biotin and MSM (which is also good for joints?!) and i ordered some MTG to try in my regimin. Some additional changes I will be making are stopping the trimming of my edges between braidings and taking a more assertive stance against the ladies braiding my hair too tight because I think I saw some breakage that I don't appreciate. Also I will be researching some easy styles for my natural hair while i'm out of braids. So that's it sorry so lengthy.
