i'm gonna stretch out my relaxer for an additional 4 weeks (16 total) I think my hair needs a chemical break. Well, i gotta go buy some more StaSofFro

my newgrowth is gonna be thirsty. Anyone else thinking about giving their hair a "chemical vacation" this summer?

I'm already well on my way Jainygirl!

It actually feels so good too. However, at the first sign of breakage, I'm relaxing.

Re: i\'ll prolly wanna pull all my hair out by then but

Yeah, I thought about stretching out my texturizer even longer. The thing is, I'm at week 4, but my new growth says week 10

. I don't know if I'll be able to wait 12-14 weeks, but I'm going to try.

i'm trying to give my hair a "chemical break" too. this is my second attempt at stretching a relaxer. last time i wimped out after 7 weeks.

so far i'm only at 4 weeks now, and it seems like soo much new growth. i'm gonna try frequent conditioner washes and protective styles, and try for 8 weeks.

Re: i\'ll prolly wanna pull all my hair out by then but

I was aiming for 16 weeks. But today after 2 and half hours of detangling, and about 3 handfuls of hair I decided that it wasn't a good idea. I guess not everyones hair is made for airdrying. Without frequent CO washes and airdrying (never again, at least not w/o blowdrying it straight) I don't think that I can make it. But good luck to everyone else!

I was going to try and stretch it from 9 weeks to 12 weeks this go round. So far I'm up to week 7 so we'll see!

Re: i\'ll prolly wanna pull all my hair out by then but

I used to relax every 4-5 weeks. I tried stretching my touch-up to 8 weeks but couldnt quite make it because I was impatient to see how much longer my hair would look after getting a relaxer, so I only went 6.5 weeks (I got it relaxed yesterday). Since I found 2 protective styles that I would like to wear while extending (bun w/ extra hair or two french braids), I want to extend it for 12 weeks (next planned relaxer Sept. 5th or 6th).

I'm going to try for 12 weeks again, but this time with coconut oil on the new growth and mucopolysaccharide applications only on conditioner wash days. There will be less product switching, as I've run out of stuff that I'm curious about.

Re: i\'ll prolly wanna pull all my hair out by then but

I am giving my hair a chemical break too. I just took my braids out after 7 weeks in. I have TREMENDOUS new growth. I am now a little more than 3 months post relaxer. I am braiding up again this next weekend. I hope to keep this next set of braids for a month. I will decide when to relax when I take them out in a month.

Re: i\'ll prolly wanna pull all my hair out by then

I think it is an great idea to stretch out your relaxers. But, you may want to consider doing it at a slower pace. Like for instance, just adding a week each time. That way it will give you a chance to see how far you maybe able to go in beween your re-touches. Because everyone's hair is different and you may not be able to stretch your hair out that long.

That is a good idea. I used to relax every 12 weeks, faithfully, just by habit.. but then I decided to see if I could stretch it more...now at 16 weeks I feel like I could keep going!!

So yes, just take it a week at a time... you'll find yourself saying "OK, I can go one more week"... "I'll go one more"... next thing you know you'll be transitioning!!

Re: i\'ll prolly wanna pull all my hair out by then

I'm doing this too, I used to only go 6 or 7 weeks between relaxers, but I will not be relaxing again until the first week of august (16 weeks). I haven't had a relaxer since april, I'm about at 10 weeks, still going strong! I'm not having problems with my hair, I think I'll always go 4 months between touch ups from now on!! (that is if i dont end up transitioning like lindy says... lol)

About the Sta Sof Fro, just a tip.. dont use it too much, because it will make your hair SUPER soft, I mean like TOO soft if you use too much of it. I learned THAT the hard way. It is really good for moisture if you decide to get braids or if your new growth is hard to comb through
