Ideas for 80s hairstyles?

My coworker's having a 80s style party for her birthday next week and I have no idea what to do in regards to hair/clothes! So far I've been told about the side ponytail and fringed bangs but neither sounds appealing to me. So i figured my best bet would be to ask you ladies

I was born in 89 so I know nothing about the 80s :/ if they were throwing a 90s party i woudve already been all over that

please help!

Yeah, finger waves in the front and straight in the back!

Or maybe you can simulate some type of mullet/shag style

You can try to make a big poufy bang and ponytail with lots of hair spray. Or, you can rock some Stevie Wonder braids like I did with some beads.

Here's one that I cooked up while I was visiting my dad..I was bored.erplexed

Ignore my eyebrows!

My hair is short, obviously, but it's a slicked sides, and flat iron waves kinda deal...I was going for Salt and Pepa.

Flashdance and preppy comes to mind. I graduated in the 80's. Oh I forgot about the jheri curl and ducktails were the 80's too!

A big bow in your hair

Chalky foundation, bright lipstick, bright eyeliner

Big shoulderpads and frilly skirts

Jodpur or stirrup pants with a long jacket with wide shoulderpads

lacy shirts with ruffles

I went to an 80's party a couple of years ago when my hair was shorter. I put a quick weave track in the back of my hair to give it a big obvious shag look. It was hilarious.



If you can do this one you'll be a big hit....... a Mushroom!! Just curl your hair under like in a cleopatra style but have the curls REALLY tight. The length of your hair doesn't matter with this one.

Or, get a tube top and tuck your hair inside of it all around, sorta like a french role around your whole head.

Or, you could spike it up like Patti Labelle and spray some glitter or neon colored spray in it. Yeah.... Neon was pretty big during that time. EEEK!! I can't imagine using these sprays now though.


Other things that were big then: Side combs, glitter, drippy jheri curls, asymmetrical cuts, ribbons tied around the forehead.... I could go on forever LOL

The side pony tail rocked in the 80's. I used a banana clip to make it look full and a wave iron to get the crimps....im sure u could do a braid out.

...How could I forget the Mushroom!!! Everybody's mama was rockin' that in church and the girls were wearing it on Easter Sunday and Christmas!!!

Can't go wrong with that at all - that is the "black 80s" and it is easy to do...gotta get the form rollers so you have that bend in your hair that says (yes I wear rollers)...
