I want to try steam rollers

I have 4A relaxed hair that frizz's ( um I mean "curls") even when relaxed. I'm wanting to give steam rollers a try but there is so many brands to choose from. Which ones work well and are not too expensive?

I've used Caruso's, which I love. There are only three brands that I have heard of. Vidal Sassoon is made by the same company as Caruso. The VS model looks exactly the same as one of the Caruso models. I would have to believe that they are identical. I don't think you can go wrong using either on of these. They seem to cost $30 or less depending on how many rollers come with the kit. You should get as many rollers as you can for different styles.

The third brand is Conair. I've never used or seen these. I only heard about them on this board.

hi tschizum, I have the vidal sassoon steam rollers. They work very nicely. My only complaint is i havent figured out how not to get the ends to be so frizzy. I tried end papers but...

i have the vidal sassoon rollers. i bought them because they are cheaper and they work just as well as caruso's.

I have Carusos. They work fine for me if i put a lil Vaseline on the ends b4 I roller each piece of hair.

I use Carusos, and I use a little coconut oil or serum on the ends. What I use depends on what is sitting on the sink's top while I'm rolling...

That's all I have been using for the past t hree years is caruos. I am a firm adovcate of them to avoid heat styling. If they ever stop making em I am in big trouble.

I'm with you. I'm in serious trouble because I've used them for years. I started off just using the Carusos to touch up any loose curls from my flexi-rods or wetsets and now that I'm on a personal no-heat challenge, I use them ONLY to curl my hair when needed.

My hair has been turning out great. I dab the ends with any type of shea pomade or moisturizer and roll them without end papers.

The sponge on my mid-size rollers are falling apart so I need to replace those. I'm going to check ebay and see if I can get some from there.

I have the Vidal Sasson set. It can be ordered from Target . com for only $20. I use end papers and Proclaim Glossing Spray before rolling. The result is soft shining hair.

I forgot to mention before: If you are prone to frizzing, as I am, do not use the shield to secure the roller, use the silver clips that are included with the rollers. The steam will evaporate easily with the clips. They always work for me.

I just want to add that for about 4 weeks straight I have not used any direct heat. The only heat has been from sitting under the dryer to halfway dry my rollersets (once a week) and steam from Caruso rollers.

I've slacked off on using my BT as much and now only spot treat but my broken off area in the back has almost completely caught up with my healthy hair. My hair seems a tad bit thicker and is not stringy looking when it's wet or straight.

I'm convinced that the no heat has been the greatest contributor!!! In between my wash and roller sets, I just use the Carusos to spiral, roller set etc. And I don't even have to use them that much! My hair use to shine when I used heat so to keep that sheen, I just keep it moisturized with my shea pomade and a touch of oil in the morning and I wrap at night with my silk bonnet.

My ends are not crunchy or frizzy because I dusted during my last touch up. I HIGHLY recommend any steam rollers but most importantly cutting back severly on heat.
