Help!!! What is wrong with me? After a trim my ends will being a healthy growth but the middle will just break off and thin out. Within a couple of months it looks like fangs hanging on the sides! LOL (Can you picture what I'm trying to say?) v---v
I do pull it back into a cotton scrunchy most days. Now that I am learning about protective styles I am also slathing on conditioner and will try baggying this weekend.
What can I do to help the middle back section grow?? Help...please....

Kinda hard to say *need more info on daily styles*. I had the same problem (I'm sill growing out and slowly trimming off), my hair just really grows naturally that way. I know it's not breaking.. cuz I check the comb/shower everytime I manipulate. The right side especially sprouts out, the followed by the left, then the middle. The middle nape is the most fragile.

What I did wrong/what helped me...

:nono:Pony/Bun on dripping wet hair. Now I let my hair air dry, almost completely, before puting it in a bun/pony.

:nono:Going to long between washings. That part of my hair is the most fragile and the most dry. After 3-4 days... I need water. Co-washing, for me is a must.

Weekly DC.

:wallbash: Tight ponytail in the same place in the back of my head *I sleep on my back*. Now, I alternating my ponytail placement and loosen it or braid it before I sleep.

Relaxing that part to frequently and first. No, I stretch and relax (when I relax) that part last.

Applying a topical Sulphur product.

Cold water rinses and AVC. *I have hard water*

Neva, evea, evea... skip a protein treatment.

HTHs!

It must be something with your daily style or how you wear it at night. Change that up for a while and see if you get a difference.

Thank you Lotus!! That was on the money!
I am totally guilty of placing the pony/bun in the same place, day after day...after day! I will change that routine right away.
Now for my dumb question...what is AVC? :look: I tried looking it up but the search was so broad.
I just started adding protein religiously to my reg....I've been using Aphogee but I need to find something ultra softening to make up for how hard it leaves my hair.

You also say a ponytail with "cottony" scrunchie. This is not a good idea unless it is soaking wet because the cotton will strip moisture from your hair. And if the ponytail holder rest at the baseof your neck, then this is taking even more moisture from the middle section of your hair.

Try a silk scrunchy, cotton will dry/break your hair.

Sorry.. that's not AVC. I meant ACV... as in Apple Cider Vinegar.

I haven't Aphogee'd seperately in a while. I ran across an old thread where a member (cant remember who.. maybe Anky) mixes her DC's together. Now I mix my Aphogee w/Conditioner (Emergencia), sometimes oils and honey- I do it all in one step.

Emergencia *for my hair* is a godsend. Come to think of it, my tub is getting low- I think I feel a panic attack coming on :lachen:
