:ohwell: I under processed my friends hair. She is getting her hair done in box braids in about a week. She plans on leaving them in for about 4 months. Is it okay if she protective styles for 4 months even though her hair is under processed, and then does the corrective in February or so?

Why are you relaxing her hair one week before braids? You should not braid any sooner than 3 weeks after relaxing. Her hair is going to break.

I don't see any problem with leaving her hair in protective styles. Breakage from underprocessing usually comes from tangling issues or dryness. So being in protective styles alleviate the tangling issues and as long as she keeps her hair moisturized with braids, I think she will be fine.
I do suggest waiting at least 2-3 weeks after a relaxer for braids though.

Usually when I am underprocessed, instead of doing a corrective relaxer right away, I get braids to help stretch the relaxer.

I suppose she should wait 2-3 weeks, but she has been relaxing a week before braids for about 2 and a half years now and has retained all of her growth. Just goes to show what may be the case for some people does not mean that it is set in stone for others.

Thank you for answering my question! :yep:

I suffer through my underprocessed bits lol. Not due for a TU for another two weeks. As for braiding it, sounds good to me. Easy!
