Using a metal bowl, or spoon is it safe or not? When using pure henna powder (body art quality), and herbs for hair, you can use stainless steel bowls. Traditionally, they have used iron bowls, as it has shown to bring our more dye release. We typically use a spatula to mix it. We don’t usually use plastic bowls because they are porous, and the herbs will stain the bowl. The commercial boxes of henna, and henna “colors” that contain other ingredients, herbs, additives, metallic salts, etc..would more so cause reactions with metal bowls, then 100% pure herbs would.
The Indian lady at my local grocer actually suggests that I mix it up in a stainless steel bowl. She said that whenever she uses plastic the henna smell will linger in the plastic bowl and won't go away. Every time I've used henna I've mixed it up with a stainless steel spoon in a stainless steel bowl with no adverse effects.
Huh I always thought you're supposed to use plastic but now I'm gonna try stainless steel for my next application. When you go to buy the utensils will they say that they are stainless steel?
I usually just buy the $1 four pack of forks and spoons and just ceramic bowls so I've never been able to tell the difference between those and stainless steel.
