I spent the better part of today henna-ing my hair and then I accidentally used a big old squirt of shampoo to wash it out instead of conditioner!! :nono: I can't believe that I was so silly!! Because it's after 7pm I can't tell for sure if the henna colour was washed out completely.
Please set my mind at ease chicas....was my afternoon of applying henna wasted? Is the colour going to be completely nil because I shampooed instead of Co-washed?
I guess that there's nothing I can do until tomorrow when I can see it in the light of day. :perplexed

No I don't think you wasted the henna. Even if you shampoo or condition it out. If I'm correct, henna bonds at a molecular level so ur fine. Plus you will get the benefits of strong hair :)

As coracaox said, you did not wash the henna out. It'll be okay.

No - henna is a semi-permanent stain. It doesn't wash out with shampoo.

I shampoo with my shikakai soap bar after each henna, and it hasn't affected my results one bit. I don't think you've done any harm. :-)

hey OP, you did not ruin your henna. i agree w/ everyone else about molecular this and semi-permanent stain and what not (altho i would say it's permanent, no? since the only way to remove it is to cut off the henna'd portions of hair).

i think the reason it is suggested that you co-wash rather than shampoo is to:
- aid in the rinsing process
- avoid over-drying your hair

You're fine. I know a lot of people who do shampoo after their henna as to remove all the henna paste from their hair. I personally just use a rinse-out DC since I clarify my hair before I even henna. You won't get rid of the stain, it's already down in your cortex after an hour or so.

What a relief!!! Thanks a million girls - I'm not going to sweat it as much now!! :drunk:
