But I'm afraid to do anything to change it. Anyone have any success having darker color stripped and a lighter one put in? I'm thinking a really pretty brown with some warm, deep highlights or lowlights or something. TIA!

Sorry, I know nothing about color, so I can't give suggestions. But.... I love your hair! The curls are so pretty and shiny!

I used a blondish colour to get the red I did.

I think Rainbow curls, bleaches parts of her hair, then uses a semi permanent colour over it. I think.

I wanted to dye my hair black, but it doesn't make sense for it to have hydrogen peroxide in it. So I guess i'll use semi-permanent. I'm excited for jet black hair!!

You and me both. It gets boring after awhile. Do you have rinse or did you dye? Do you know how long rinses normal take to come out?

The name brand ones say 24 washes before it starts to fade.

I wash my hair about, LOL, 3-4 times a week.. LOL...

Sheesh!!

I want to go permanent, but I really don't understand why there is hydrogen peroxide when you're going darker...

Oh well...

I already used permanent to go lighter, so I don't want to restrip my hair, especially since it's relaxed now.

me too! i love my hair colour but i think i want a little extra something! so i bought some henna from the body shop...a dark brown one...ingredients have indigo in it so hopefully wont be too much of a change cuz i dont do huge change all that well!! LOL
i looked at a wash in colour shampoo too but it said not suitable for hair thatis not light brown...bugger!

if i try it will let you know how it turned out

I've had jet black hair for atleast over 4 years now. It's very pretty, but like you said, gets boring after awhile. I refuse to strip my hair... I bet that would be some of the driest hay-looking breakage-prone MESS! So I'm going to let it grow out naturally. Right now I have about a good 3-4 inches of my lighter medium brown hair roots and the black. It's really not as bad as I thought it would look. I think eventually, the black might begin to fade with the summer's sun and maybe by fall or next winter I can (semi-perm) dye it a nice pretty color.
Good luck! Let us know if you decide to strip the color afterall.

Caramela what product did you use?

I'm sitting with protein in my hair, because I might dye it today.

I just want it to be all one colour, LOL,
My roots are a dark brown, and the ends, are pretty much a red.

I want all blue black, i think that'd be hot!

Yep, that's right :)
The hair is a bit weaker than the unbleached part now. The strands are a bit thinner, get more split ends and I see the occasionaly broken strands in the shower, but it's not breaking of when I touch it or anything like that.

I have bleached most parts at least twice though. My natural colour is black or very very dark brown. It lifts to a yellowy blonde but can't go all the way to white.
I'm sure more gentle colour will be fine as long as you look after your hair. (I avoid heat completely now)

good2uuuu, you won't need much lifted to go brown. I think it'd look nice :)

seraphinelle, I think blue black would look great on your hair. If you dyed over it now, the lighter parts might take the blue better than the roots.
I think a (non mix) semi permanent is the way to go for that colour. You can top it up whenever you want, and no damage.
You might be able to get Crazy Colour (my favourite brand) in the hair shops in London. Crazy Colour do every colour under the sun and are only £1.99 a bottle.

Ok thanks RC.

I knew you'd chime in eventually. I was in superdrug yesterday contemplating the colour. I think I'll head out today then and try it. My mom says that black hair will be too striking, but I'm willing to give it a try... and if it's semi.. it'll wash out eventually.. LOL.. I hope..

The semi permanent hair colour you get in the mainstream chemists mostly sucks. Doesn't last long enough.
BUT, if you're just trying it out, it's probably a good thing.
I get crazy colour from afro hair shops, you can get Adore there too (some LHCF members have used this).
I also find, with bleached hair, the colour washes out really slowly, sometimes not at all. You might have trouble getting the colour out of the lighter part of your hair (because it has been processed) if you don't like it.
So, always do a strand test! (Ironic that I say that, because I rarely bother)

Actually, I've got a mostly full bottle of some schwarzkopf blue-black rinse lying around that wasn't effective enough for me. I could post it to you if you're interested...

My thing is that I have all this gray around my temples and no matter what type of permenant color I use, it never lasts long enough. The gray starts showing up in a weeks time. I even used the straight up salon bottles of Clairol and #20 developer from Sally. Same thing. When I use Bigen, same thing. The only difference is that the Bigen is way easier to clean up.

Maybe I'll just go gray. But I really am not feeling balck ends and gray roots............ And I do not want to cut my hair! I may have to become a daily wig wearer.:ohwell:

I'm in the same boat. I posted a few weeks ago about options and after hearing the horror stories of stripping the color I decided to just ride it out.

Oh, I just got that you had a black DYE in your hair and wanted to strip it out, not just lighten natural black.
That's definitely harder...

I used a product called Uncolour by clairol recently. It's made to strip out permanent colour. It stripped out my temporary colours quite well. You could give that a go.
It's the one in the packet you mix with water or developer (I mixed with water). There's also one in a bottle, for semi-permanent colour, which is apparently rubbish.

Good2uuuu - Try Henna w/Indigo. This is what I'm doing because I'm grey all around the hair line with this my hair is safe and my grey is covered.

If you bleach then color this will tear your hair apart this requires constant care.

Also pm Allandra I think she had a post awhile back saying what she does to cover the grey.

After my jet black hair mishap a couple of months ago, I can honestly say that I don't like jet black hair anymore. It makes me looked washed out. Now I prefer chocolate brown to a warm golden brown.
