I think I might have used too much detangler ... :ohwell:

*sigh*

Soooo...

What should I do ?? I need to use something so that I can detangle cuz my hair is just a tangly mess... then I only use Serum/Heat Protectant Spray/Kemi while flat ironing..

and its still stiff ... :( - its soft, but stiff if that makes any sense...

ummm, like i said before, try paul mitchell's the detangler.

I second that (the one in the spray bottle). Also try not using the Kemi Oil and limit the amount of serum this could be the culprit. The key to "swangin hair" is limiting the amount of products on the hair. When you go to the dominicans the put a little leave in in your hair, then set it, then blow dry without adding any product. Now I'm not saying to do it exactly like that, since we know you need to protect your hair from the heat, but you should limit the amount of product.

There are two ways I have achieved the SWANG:

1. My favorite is to wash and condition like usual. For a leave in a put a 1/2 dollar size amount of Carol's Daughter Hair Milk on for a leave in, and blow dry on low with an Ionic blowdryer (mine has a wide-toothed comb attachment. It's the kind that is shaped like a huge comb). After dry I use my steam rollers for about 30 minutes and VOILA!!

2. Lexi84's fotki has a tutorial for "Salon Fresh hair". I use her method when I am really far post relaxer to get them roots SCRAIGHT!! (my siggy is after using her method).

I know you want to use the heat protectant and you SHOULD but keep in mind that they have lots of cones and they weigh the hair down a LOT.

I assume that you are using the Kemi-oyl and heat protectant on dry hair? If so, I would say try switching to applying all products to wet hair only. I find that once my hair dries, any and all products cause it to flatten out and lose movement.

Also after you flat-iron each section, try rolling it on a big magnetic roller before moving to the next section. If you are not going out immediately after finishing your hair, I would just leave them in for a little while. Either way, it will keep your hair out of your way, keep it smooth, and give it a little lift which will help with the "swang".

I forgot about the one in the spray bottle, but I was actually referring to the actual detangling conditioner. I've never tried the one in the spray bottle before, but I'm sure that may work too.

if you want swing use little to no prduct. I notice that when the dominicnas do blow outs here in buffalo they use no more than a drop of serum and work it throught out the hair and continue to blow dry.

Hmmm...

This sounds like a plan...

I have a querstion tho

What about using the detangler in the shower after your wash/condition, detangling your hair with your comb, and then rinsing it out so that it doesnt leave the film. That way your hair will already be detangled when u get out the shower and you wont need to use any product?

hmmm.. well I like to use a leave in...
so thats where my problem lies, Maybe I should just use a liquid leave in ..

Yep. I tend to use liquid leave-ins because they are lighter and detangle better. My hair tangles the most right around my ears. I like Razac's leave-in diluted with water. If you like something a little heavier, I would say try the Sheabutter detangling lotion by Kids Organics. It's thicker than your typical liquid, but thinner than a cream.

After that, I only apply a serum and styling mousse.

If you're using a creamier consistency leave-in, be careful that you aren't reapplying/overapplying product to the same areas - especially the top layer of your hair, which could cause it to be weighed down. I usually hit up my hair line first, because that's when I have the most product on my hand, and it won't hurt much. Then I apply it to the ends. Then I move to the interior of my hair by seperating different sections with my hand and lightly running my hands over the root/newgrowth area.. Usually after that, I still have leave-in residue on my hands, so I smooth that over the top of my hand. If I think I need a little more, I add just a few drops in my hand and apply.

Swang for me= detangling under the shower, apply little heat protectant, use a round brush to blowdry, then flat iron. But I only do this occassionally, like once a month and it has not caused any problems with breakage. I just make sure the other parts of my regimen are air tight.

I know using a round brush isnt the most popular thing to do but nothing else, especially rollersetting, has ever worked for me. The round brush thing isnt such a bad idea if used sparingly.

I use the Kids Organics...

I am quite heavy handed though when it comes to my products I can admit that

Im gonna try the liquid leave in and see if that works :)

I understand. You don't want any of your precious strands to feel left out.

I dont know why but for me, less product = more swing. I get the most swing from blowdrying/flatironing instead of a rollerset (thats just me though). I rely heavily on my deep condition step to make sure that my hair has the right moisture and elasticity so that it can hold up to the blowdryer. Also, i use Redken Heat glide only (just a smidgen) while my hair is wet to help detangle anything that i missed in the shower. The silicone base helps the comb glide through and also traps the moisture in from the water. But thats it, no other products and i get light swangin hair.

Good Plan..

So Silicone is the ingredient that creates Slip?

I notice that when my hair doens't swing, it's because I've got too much product in it. That may be it.

Put the Kemi oil down,:naughty: you don't need it when flat ironing. IMO all you need is the Heat protectant before you blowdry and the serum before or while you are flat ironing. Kemi oil weighs my hair down.

Also, if you are using CON, thay may be the culprit too. Try another shampoo OR make your first lather a clarifying poo, then follow witht he CON. Deep condition, add the minimal amount of leave-in, spray on heat protectant, blowdry, add serum, and flat iron.

I dont think EVERY product that provides slip contains silicone but Silicone definitely can aid in providing slip. The strands once coated allow a comb to glide through easier. Too much of it is a bad thing :nono:

Just wanted to say that your son is SO cute - he looks like a bundle of joy! I love your hair and the color - it's beautiful and growing really long!

Off the topic......your baby is absolutely beautiful.

you, your baby and your hair look beautiful!!

I get swing when I set with water, leave-in and serum, rollerset and wrap. Silky, smooth, shiny, bouncy hair:)

Thanks everyone :D

Im airdryong as we speak! 2nite I washed w/ con green, conditioned w/ Motions moisture ( thx crlsweetie - its now a staple, wonderful slip)

rinsed n used H-two mixed with Herbal Essences Detangler, Put my serum in
(lightly  ) & my fantasia ic heat protectant so we shall see tomorrow if she swangs  my hair wont dry til tomorrow...

baby in one arm sry for da shorthand

I say it's probably the kemi Oil that is too heavy along w/the other stuff that may just be where the overload comes in at. I would continue to use the leav in of your choice (only a dime or nickel size) at about 1-2 dots of kemi oil and a dot or two of the serum. Or just leave the kemi oil out all together. One thing the dominicans do is use oils/serums that are feather light it's almost like they didn't put anything in your hair when you run your finger through your hair.

So I have "swang"

it looks kinda poofy

I put some SAO on it with a little Garnier Sleek n Shine Serum (its a very light serum)

and it looks ok .. but its soft & swangy.. Ill see if I can take a pic
