at the beauty school but thats not my style. if you dont know what happened search my thread from yesterday. ok so i posted pics of my hair which according to them was matted an so thats why they couldn't handle flat ironing my hair.
this is only a warm press!!!

ok heres what happened i found the thread:
ok i almost had to cut somebody. when i first come to the reception desk the lady had an attitude. then i was like ok not gonna let that get me down. so i got in the young ladys chair. and advised i was relaxer free. i felt ok because she said well at least that way you know your hair isn't damaged. (natural hair can be damaged but ok)so she gets out the flat iron and a pressing comb. then she pulled out some grease. omg i didn't say anything. then she proceeded to fry my hair. of course i spoke up but i did try to see if it looked ok with the grease. well it didnt look good the press was cool but it was stiff and had no movement. then i smelled some foul smell and my hair was chillin on the hot comb. i was like is my hair comming out. she said no its only the dead hair. ok now all hair is dead hair and thats not what i asked. she fryed my hair like chicken and burned out a spot. not to mention that she was using a fine tooth pressing comb. so she got a teacher. and i am giving the short version. why did he try to tell me well you are supposed to loose a certian amount of hair per day, maybe you are on medication or maybe you are stressed "Nothing that we are doing is making your hair come out."so i said i wasn't on meds that make my hair come out and i wasnt stressed. so he says well if your hair is comming out you are stressed. i explained that i washed my hair several times per week and detangled so i know what normal loss was for me. he had the nerve to look at my hair and say you did what to this hair. this hair oh heck no he had a tone. this hair. then he told me my hair was matted. how is a picked out fro matted. he is lucky i didnt tell him about all the sugar in his tank. so anyway needless to say she stopped doing my hair and i got a refund. i couldnt get home quick enough to put motions oil moisturizing protien conditioner in my hair. i'm about to press my hair on my own minus the grease. how bout the section that she fried is not drawing back up like it usually does when it is wet. maybe after a few washings it will. oh i forgot how come another student tried to "help" by telling me i was loosing hair because i let my hair air dry. then she asked if i combed my hair. i advised i combed with conditioner, and combed again without conditiner once it was rinsed out. if i hear one more persons say that oh it's just dead hair excuse i might get violent. ok i wont get violent but you guys know what i mean. then i advised they needed a wider tooth pressing comb. you cant use a fine tooth comb on my hair i only use the fine tooth comb on the kitchen. wow, he even had the nerve to have an attitude when he gave me my cash back.

I had to do some weeding, but found your post. Girl, you have me

I am SO feeling your pain. I had a similar experience when I first moved to my current location, but it was NOT a student.
That's why I finally decided that I could and would learn to do my own roller set. All I can recommend is that you get regular dustings to take off the ends, rather than do what I did. I cut off ALL of my hair and started from scratch.

I'm so sorry for you.

I'm so sorry your experience went like that. With a few condition washes, a deep conditioner, and a protein treatment, that spot that she fried should go back to normal soon. I can't believe they gave you such attitude.

webby: i'm gonna have my mom trim me or i'll do it
tai: i couldnt get home to condition my hair fast enough
jasmine: how come every black student had a weave but one and they were a mess
leslie thanks my skin is manic ok one day crazy the next

What are they teaching these people?! Are the textbooks from 1902?
nono.gif

You did a good job.
smile.gif
What products do you press with?

msportugal, I have learned, only after years of being too nice, that it's my hair and my money and if the stylist has jacked-up hair...then I need to find the exit.

This BURNS ME UP!!! This is why I want to know how to do everything I want to do to my hair MYSELF. People are so ignorant about black hair (and black people at that). When homey said "you do what to this hair" I would've had to have told him about himself. And I really would either send them a pic with a nasty letter or go show them all the great things that YOU can do with "this hair".

I am so
mad.gif
right now!

sassy: i dont think they are teaching anything about hair but styling and perming there is no focus on hair health
webby: i have learned too a few years ago i would have let her continue ripping my hair out with that fine tooth pressing comb cause it was just "dead hair"
kenesha: i think i will stick with doing it myself, he had ball of steel comming at me like that he just doesn't know i was holding back
THIS HAIR!!!

msportugal--sorry about your ordeal. I've been through the same thing on several occasions in the past with LICENSED stylists, let alone students. That's why I've HAD to learn to do everything myself.
ohwell.gif
Anyway, you did a great job pressing your hair out yourself. Your hair is growing so fast!
smile.gif

ms portugal, I'm so sorry you had a bad experience!

I feel your pain, girl. I went to a beauty school and had a similar experience except the girl burned my hair with a perm and then cut instead of trim. When I saw what she did I chased that...thang up the street. Her only saving grace was that she hopped on the bus!

In the words of The Rock, she was about to smell what the Tiger was cookin'!

model:thanks i'm trying to catch up with you
tiger: next time wear your track shoes LOL
carefree: thanks but sometimes you just want someone else to do it I WANT TO BE PAMPERED!!!

Your hair turned out great even after those evil hair school people. I'm honestly scared of trying any stylists unless someone I know really understands hair has recommended them to me. Come on down to ATL to get pampered they are a few women I know that get their hair pressed without damage by great stylists.

hey hair buddy: i will have to check them out when i am out that way
lovely: thanks a bunch
We just finished our las vegas meeting and they made me feel really good about my press!!!(even though it is getting puffy)

Oh puhleese, this woman was justa swangin her hair all over my house. I'm soooo jealous! Even after being Fhi'd, I didn't have that movement (too much product you say, yea I know!). Babygirl's hair is SOOO thick and lush! I love it and so did all the fellas, she had them hollerin while we were shopping!
smile.gif

Ms. P you kept it together. I think we've all had our run-in with stylists like this. I think your hair still looks very strong.
smile.gif

Ms P, my jaw dropped as I read that coz I was thinking "Do they happen to know who they're talking to? Not just an LHCFer but Ms P the hair styling guru. Want me to call them and give them the 411 coz they seem to be out of the loop?

Anyway, I'm proud of you for the way you handled that.
up.gif
And the press you did yourself is as impressive as everything else you do with hair. Keep up the good work!

You know I am glad you put this up. Cause last week i had my cousin over and maaaan(smh) her hair was jacked up. Her nape was about 1.5 and the hair on top was like 4-5 inches long. Secondly b4 i found that out i saw she had 2 rubber bands in her hair and when i put some carrot hair creme in her hair to help stop breakage i noticed that there was a section of her hair that was like 3 or so different lenghts cause it was cut up soo bad. The gist of the hair was about an inch and the rest was like 2-2.5 inches. I was thinking W-T-H!!?! But i couldnt do all i wanted to w/her hair though. thats the bad thing about it. and guess what? Her sis has a license to do hair(which i am STILL questiong to this day) i was thinking, oh heck no. she cant. ya cant be that....oh goodness. and i told my cousin to get a GOOD even cut cause her junk was jacked up. Fortunately i am signing up for some hairbraiding classes, yes its not dealing all things in hair but thats a good start and when i get a lil certificate or so then i can get to doing her's cause maaaan. oh my goodness. Everytime i see the girl and i mean everytime i see her her hair gets shorter and now its really gonna need to get shorter if her sis cuts her hair right. Highly doubt she'll let her hair grow out and then cut it later when the hair keeps breaking off cause of WRONG, UNPROPER hair care. I just shake my head. Folx just dont KNOW. uuggh. makes me mad it really does.

nubian: you know i have to shake it like a salt shaker for the first few days, you know the menz were trying to get at you and that lil cute half top you had on
Lorraine: i know i said i wouldnt highlight anymore but you make me want to go back on my word your hair is bangin
Nonie: i'm proud of me too cause i was about to let loose, thanks for the avatar too!!!!
keke: some people just cant give up their stylist even if they arent doing their hair a bit of good, i wish you all the best on your certificate

sorry sassy i didnt mean to skip over you. I do what I call a dry press, i use no products then i go over the hair with a light oil and press over it again. this time i used some proclaim posish on the ends to combat frizz but it is not good for my natural hair i think it made it more frizz prone.

yes it happens too much now i know why so many of us just dont trust "pros" anymore. I am just glad that i spoke up cause the old me just would have went along with the program burnt bubbling hair on the pressing comb and all. And i probably would have paid and tipped the stylist. Glad I have more "hair confidence" now
