I scratched the mess outta my hair when can I relax?

Oh My goodness, I have THE most SENSITIVE scalp ever and I use a lye relaxer. I was planning on relaxing on Sat. but tonight my hair was itching and I WAS SCRATCHING, I dont know why..but it feels better now . Any how long do you wait to relax after you've have a REAl real good scratch? usually i go like three days but on top to add to it I just took my braids down on Sunday. (I know I know I should wait but its real unlikely that I will, my hair looks a mess)

If you relax soon and your hair starts to burn too quickly, you may have to wash out the relaxer sooner and deal with underprocessed hair till the next relaxer.

I think you will be alright. If I scratch my scalp I give myself 2 days minimum before applying chemicals. My scalp is usually fine after 2 days... I would say it only takes the scalp 24 hours to heal(that is if you haven't dug a scalp sore) but just surface scratching...my scalp is fine after 24 hours and give it another day to be sure. This is just my opinion!

If it was a goooooood scratch, I would relax no sooner than one week from the date of scratching.

Well, Bluerhapzody, we can only go by what you tell us, i.e.: "I have THE most SENSITIVE scalp ever ... how long do you wait to relax after you've have a REAl real good scratch?" In addition, you've just taken out braids. This is why some of us are advising you to wait at least a week. At the end of the day, you know your scalp better than we do so good luck whatever you decide.

Ok I think I am going to relax on Sat. night However I am going to do it in sections. usually I wait like 3-4 days to relax my whole head so if I do it in sections then Hopefully I wont burn! thanks for all your advice ladies!

Ive taken about braids on a tuesday and dug thru my head, combed, scratched, and rubbed and relaxed on a friday with no ill effects. my stylist thought I should of waited because I was going from natural to relaxed but she based me really well and I didnt have any burns. I would say wait a day or two but make sure you base really well. Mine is itchin like crazy now because Im about to relax tomorrow.

Relaxing on saturday on sunday may be ok. I have a really sensitive scalp too and I HAVE to base my scalp at least 2 days before any relaxer. I may have a greasy head for a day or 2 but I usually ponytail it during those few days to hide the grease. It Definitely helps with the burns so maybe you could try basing your scalp pretty good. Hope you don't come back to us like :burning:. Good Luck but hold out as long as you can.
