Do a mild treatment before, like maybe the 2nd to last wash before. I do a keraphix treatment my last wash before my relaxer.
After rinsing out the relaxer, use a conditioner. I like Motions neutralzing conditioner, aphogee 2 minute reconstructor or ors replenishing pack
Week after the relaxer I do a heavy duty moisture treatment. I do a heavier protein 3 weeks after my relaxer.
When I use the liquid Aphoghee, I use it the week before I retouch.

gym,
are u saying u use a mild protein 2 washes before and a heavy protein for 2 washes after?
Yep.......
The reason this really works for me is because I have fine hair but alot of it. Since each strand isn't thick, my cuticle layer is already sort of thinner. The mild protein before helpd reinforces my cuticle layer before the relaxer so that it isn't as wrecked afterwards but my hair can still get straight. I use another mild protein right after rinsing the relaxer out so that it can pentrate and get deep inside the hair strand and help the neutralizing process.
Afterwards, 2 weeks later........
I use a heavier protein. By this time, I have fully restored any lost moisture and the protein helps provide additional strength.I find that for fine hair, it like protein but only when all textures are uniform and no hardcore protein. I do this 2 weeks later before I get noticable newgrowth so that I don't get any tangles while doing it from the two textures. I wait 2 weeks so that I don't cause any reversion either. Since I use mild protein pretty often, this heavier treatment sets a base that the mild proteins maintain until my next touch-up.
Keep in mind that My idea of heavy isn't aphogee. I don't really use that any more. My heavier proteins are Motions CPR w/heat, Duo tex for 5minutes with heat, and ORS mayo with heat.
Thanks for explaining....that makes sense and your hair sounds like mine. Ppl think its thick but really its fine and I get more body from texlaxing...but the individual strands are fine. Im going to try your method out next time around. Could I use Aubrey GPB as my mild protein and Nexxus Emergencee or Affirm 5 in 1 as my stronger protein?
That would be a great selection of products.
I find alot of people that have been told they have thick hair really have fine strands. I wish more people knew the difference.
My hair sounds like yours. Could you post other conditioners I could use for the stronger protien?
Hey April Shower
Other stronger proteins I use include
Nexxus Emergencee- I only leave it in for 5 minutes and then I rinse and follow with a moisturizing conditioner
Dudleys Hair Rebuilder
CB smoothe reconstructor
Joico Kpak
This is how I prepare for my relaxer - On my last wash before my relaxer, I clarify my hair, and apply a protein treatment, either Aphogee intensive keratin reconstructor or Creme of Nature reconstructor and leave it on for about 20 minutes and I always deep condition afterwards with either mizani moisturefuse or Kenra Moisturizing conditioner.
Now just after removing the relaxer from my hair, I apply another 5 minute protein treatment to my hair, (same used above) and then I apply the neutralizing shampoo and continue to bring the pH level down. On my my fourth wash, I leave the neutralizer in my hair for about 5 minutes and then I deep condition my hair.
Within 5-7 days after my relaxer, I apply another protein treatment to ensure my hair's cutilcles are properly repaired from the damage done by the relaxer. This step is critical for me to avoid loss of hair or thinning as a result of breakage.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for breaking it down...I took notes![]()
