Hi ladies, I have not been on in awhile, and it is great to be back, but i am so frustrated trying to grow out my hair. i had to many setbacks this week, i gave myself a dusting, but it turned out great because my ends really looked great and i did not lose any length. But after i tried a ACV rinse my hair was coming out in thick long strands and not normal shedding. I wanted to cry everytime, i touched my hair, hair just came out of my hands. i wanted to cry. i had to rinse and shampoo so much to stop some of it. My is still not completely recovered. It is still shedding really bad, and because of the ACV rinse my ends were back to dry and split. The ACV rinse worked the first day and made my hair so shiny and the conditioner worked well, but the next day i worked out, and i sweat really bad. Some of the vinegar was not rinse out or dried out my hair combine with salt in my sweat did not work. I also found out later that i did the ACV rinse wrong. I did not diluted with distilled water. I know dumb, but my hair has been so dry since, and i had to cut my hair again, and i when i kept trimming ends just got i worse. I think i am too much of a perfectionist, so i threw away my trimming shears. I feel like i will never achieve my goal of healthy waist length hair. I am so upset because i was almost there. i only had a couple inches to go i think, i have not straightened my hair in 8 months. On a postive note, because of this board my hair is still longer than i had in a long time, but i do not want to be thin. I just have a couple of questions how can i get my hair to shed less. I wash my hair every other day sometimes daily. Also how do you a ACV rinse correctly even though i am too scared to do another one.

Steph I once had the same problem with shedding. On occassion my hair will start shedding. What I used was odorless garlic shampoo. It evens says on the bottle good for falling hair. It really slowed down the shedding a lot. If you check your local beauty supply I'm sure they will have some. When this happens I usually do my first shampoo with garlic and relather with my regular shampoo. You may just want to follow the directions on the bottle especially if it is your first time using it. Just be sure to concentrate on the scalp annd let the suds run down the length so your hair won't get to dry. My friend had the same problem and I told her to try it, she said it also worked for her. Hope this helps.

When doing an ACV rinse I use a couple of tablespoons of ACV and fill up a 1 quart (32 oz) container of water. If clarifying, I use 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup of ACV and fill up the 1 quart bottle with water.

Have you tried doing conditioner washes for some of your shampooing every other day or daily?

Steph-

I know you are upset about the shedding but try to focus on the positive--your hair is longer than it has ever been. In good time, you will get that length back and then some!

When I do acv rinses, I dilute my acv with plain ole tap water. I've been doing this for 2 or 3 years now. I haven't experienced any problems with doing this. It's made my scalp clean, healthy and happy though. I mix 4 ounces of acv with 28 ounces of water. I then pour the entire quart throughout my hair and scalp after shampooing my hair. I then rinse that out, and proceed with conditioning.

You must dillute the vinegar because is very akaline. I use very little acv in distilled water. I just mix about 2 table spoons to 1 quart of water. I always rinse thoughly after I do mine, or my preference is to follow it with my conditioner than a normal (distilled water) rinse. When my hair dried out from the lime recipe, I did several deep conditionings(conditioner mixed with olive oil). It took awhile but my hair finally stoped being dry. I wouldn't try another acv rinse(or any heavy proteins) until you get your moisture level back. I just did my first acv rinse this weekend since I had that problem(with the lime recipe) and it went very well.

Edited to say replace some of your shampooing with condiontioner washes.

Thank you again ladies for all your encouragement and advice, you always let me see the positive. To answer some questions, mirrormirror I do not have a perm. Also i when i wash daily or every other day. I mostly do condition rinses, i only shampoo my hair about once a week. Those condition washes are wonderful. I think i am going to follow the advice from staying away from protein or ACV rinses. I had hair breakage from doing the Apoghee protein treatment. I do not have success with my hair when i do something different. I know i can not do protein treatments. Thank you again for cheering me up and remembering that i will eventually reach my goals.
