Help someone, I don't know what got into me but I gave myself a relaxer today and left that damn thing on too long, now when I saw my hair coming out in the sink I couldn't put two and two together then when I remember the time, it clicked. Now I'm desperate and I'm thinking of just chopping it off and start over. I know I'm very emotional right now but I just can't stand to think my hair being short in some areas, I think the area that got broken off the most was the back, now I'm contemplating cutting my back short or just leave it. I don't know what to do because I've been trying very hard to get this hair of mine on point and now this.. I was thinking of maybe wearing cornrows but I'm not sure because of my work or maybe I should consider getting twists until it grows back in.

Any suggestions???..

I had something similar happen to me. I ended up cutting my hair and started wearing my wig. But my hair wasn't as long as yours.

If I had your length I would do mini chops until it grows out instead of chopping it all at once.

Do you think you could hide the area?

Thanks for responding -- I like the mini chop idea and the area where I'm noticing it now is in the back, above the nape. It's difficult to hide that area and there might be other areas that I haven't seen.

How much hair have you lost?

How is the overall length of your hair?

Thanks for responding -- I lost a lot. It wasn't even all around but I was working on getting it there. I've started using profectiv as my main moisturizer and I'm going to be consistently using it to see if I retain more length.

What conditioning treatments have you done?

Well, I'm pleased to say I chopped it all off. I even up the back with the sides and I'm happy I did it. I know I was very upset when I over extended my time with the relaxer but after thinking about it, maybe it's all for the best. The side of my head that I sleep on is shorter and thinner than the other so I trimmed everything up to make it one length, now when it grows back in it'll be all one length, hopefully.

I took some pictures of my new look and will be posting them soon. The only thing I hate about short hair is the fact that for me to have any style I have to roll it up everynight. I remember wearing some short style some time ago, I'm going to see if I see any pictures of it so that I can recreate that style for myself right now.

I'm glad you're feeling better and I'm glad your were able to recover from this. i understand how emotional it can be.

I don't care what anyone says, no amout of Aphogee is going to stop breakage. It might help to prevent it but it can't stop it if it already began.

Yep, I chopped it off and I feel liberated. I'm finally going to start over and use whatever I've learned from this site to help me grow healthy long hair. I'm definitely going to document how long it takes to get my hair back...

Sorry about the breakage but I'm glad that you're happy about your new cut. I can't wait to see the pictures of your hair now.

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, how long did you leave your relaxer in for? Or rather by how much did you go over your allotted relaxer time?

I used my beloved Phyto and left it 7 minutes over the alloted. Normally I wash it out after 25 minutes, but it doesn't take long for damage to occur when you are using a relaxer.
