I went natural 2 years ago after a bad perm and finding LHCF. I had a regimen then and have been so busy I got away from it. I really want some growth but I've never really understood how to tell what type hair I have and then just what products to use. As of right now I cowash with Nexxus Humectant every 3rd day shampoo once a week. After shampoo or cowash I apply the mist (aloe, glycerin, water, the lock it in with castor and jojoba. I detangle once a week. If I need a deep conditioning I've been making a natural moisture one or for protein I use aphogee.

Any ideas what I can do differently to encourage growth??

I either wear it in an afro or use curlformers to create spirals or do a twist out usually.

Honestly, your reggie seemed fine to me, until this part "I either wear it in an afro...."

Everyone's hair is different, but I'd have a very hard time retaining length if I wore my hair in an afro on a regular basis. The key to my retention is moisture, some protein, and eliminating breakage from tangles and knots, which afros wiil eventually lead to on my head.

Maybe you should mix in some protective styling (PSing) in your reggie. The spiral sets & twistouts are low-manipulation styles, and they work great for many on the board and will probably continue to be ok for your retention as well, as long as you add in some PSing along the way.

ETA: how does your hair feel between co-washes and shampoos? Do you feel that moisturizing & sealing just twice per week is sufficient for your strands?

Keeping my hair stretched and in a protective style has been most beneficial in retaining length. My-go-to style is twists. I haven't worn my hair out since Oct/Nov 2010.

When I wear afro puffs my hair gets dry even with spraying the aloe, water and glycerin on it a few times throughout the day. I had several surgeries in the last few months (8 surgeries) and it had become really hard this last few months to do the twists and things on my own. I will post a pic of my length now. I will try more protective styles I think I am just a slow grower and I'm pretty sure the anesthesia hasn't helped. :perplexed

it's shoulder length I think??
