Okay so I've got my regiment down. My hair is really pretty and healthy now but, this is my huge problem. I have no idea how to style it. And I'm afraid to screw around with it too much for fear of causing major damage. (that's probably paranoia right there)

I haven't had hair this long (3 months post relaxer and about to do another one it's chin length) in more than a decade and beyond ponyfalls I have no clue what to do or how to do it.

I'm kind of embarassed because I'm almost 30 years old and I feel like I should know but I don't. I have been practicing braiding my hair but am still really bad at it. My last few styling attempts have ended in tears and yelling.

I've been researching roller sets and would like to try one but I need help and some explicit instructions here, (if you have pictures I'd love you forever please bear with me if I ask stupid questions.

1.)My hair is really really thick. What kind of setting lotion should I use? And how long (approx.) should I stay under my dryer?

2.)What kind of curlers/rods etc do I use? I've read so many conflicting directions I'm pretty lost.

3.)Do they still make those little tissue paper things for the ends of your hair?

4.)My hair is big and fluffy, if I do a roller set with medium type rollers how can I avoid just winding up with a big ole pouf?

Any other tips, advice anyone has would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,
Well I tried to do a search for you to find a really good roller set instructions but I can't perform a search for some reason. Anyhow I would recommend you try: don't speak defeats hair album (lots of info and I believe instructions on roller sets). A fashion slave also has instructions. There are lots of instructions on many hair albums. These are just a few. Try doing a search for roller set instructions and you will find something worthwhile.

I just wanted to say dont feel bad. I am pretty much in the same boat with you. I do braid outs, ponytails, buns, buns, buns, did i say buns?? I don't use heat much at all.

I wear my snood now also. So I can leave it down and just put that on and keep going.

Girl, I don't know how to style, either. I'm going to go hunting for snoods in Indy (if anyone knows where to find, send me a PM, please) but I mostly do buns, phony ponies, phony buns, and a few wigs.

I buy rollers. They almost never make it out of the package. I do not know how to roll my hair, especially not for a rollerset. I need to learn, though.

That makes me feel so much better. Sometimes I swear I'm the only one who gets lost. This weekend I'm going to try my first braid out. I've got this really great cream stuff I want to try. If I'm successful I'll share.

Thanks guys :)

I was thinking I would try one this weekend, too. If yours turns out, please do share!:)

WOOOT!

My first braid out looks really cute I am really happy with it. If it's not too fluffy or weird by the time I get home from work I will post pics.

I did it dry because my hair is really ~really~ thick and the soft bonnet for my blow dryer is broken. I used Profectiv mega growth cream and my Doo Gro oil. I did smallish braids with sorta large sections, each braid was slightly differently sized so my hair looks naturally wavy/curly. I oiled the ends and used foam rollers to roll up the little braids. I tied on my scarf and left it be from Saturday night (after we got home from the club) to this morning and it turned out really well.

I've gotten a ton of compliments. The only other thing I think I need to do is use gel or something for hold because where my hair doesn't hold a curl the waves are sorta limp.

YAY I did a style that looks good.
