Hi Ladies!

I have type 4A hair, and I also have streaks. Since I came to college, my shoulder length non-relaxed hair is slowly breaking, getting thinner, and getting really dry. I’m so used to going to my hair dresser every two weeks, that my hair care knowledge is limited to washing, blowdrying, pressing and flat-ironing. What tips can you ladies give me to stop the breakage and give my thick hair the body it once had? I’ve thought about relaxing my hair numerous times, but my mother has always put it into my mind that all my hair would fall out. I don’t have a regimen like some of you have outlined, but I do think I need one. And if anyone has any salon references in the Lansing area, I’d love that, too. Thank you!!!

Courtney

Oh, the good old days.......

How often are you washing? Do you moisturize daily?

What products are you using?

i wash every other week and i just use cream of nature color treated shampoo and conditioner. i don't use anything else because I'm always unsure of what to use and i don't wanna cause any more damage

advice never applies to e'eryone but here's mine:

#1 - cut down on the heat!

moisture or protein? you need one or the other, or both.

moisturize your hair every day. find a good one or make your own.

avoid over manipulation of your hair and be extra careful detangling.

watch the ingredients in your products. oil does not moisturize and neither does silicone :) if you use alot if it, silicone products will build up and need to be properly removed so your conditioners can do their job.

do not even think about relaxing your hair until you get your natural hair in better shape, cause your mom's right, you'll be bald as a cue ball.

if you're in good health then continue to eat well, drink your water, think about taking vitamins if you're not eating enough of the right foods.

No wonder your hair is acting up. It's mad at you. :lachen:

What kind of budget are you working for with haircare? You should be washing and deep conditioning at least once a week and moisturizing with something at least once a day.

well, i don't really have a limit to work with, so i'd love some product tips. what type of moisturizers and proteins should I use? and should I change my shampoo?
