I need an anti-humectant to keep my flat iron. . .flat

I am so frustrated. When I was relaxed, my hair would puff, even when it was in the best of health.

Now that I'm natural, I don't like to flat iron, simply because it doesn't last. . .at all, no matter how straight it is while I'm doing it..

What is a good HARD working anti-humectant that I can use?

I've been researching and Im finding
Aveda Brilliant Shine
Sabino Moisture Block
Fantacia IC Heat Protectant and Straight Serum

I would love to know of which ones worked for you. I'm suppose to be minimizing any unnecessary spending so I dont want to buy all of these. Anyone care to ship samples or product swap? I'm open to that too.

I use Redken Smooth Down conditioner and then a blow dry straight lotion. My hair doesn't usually revert, but I'm transitioning from a Texlax...I have a ton of texture...so this might or might not work for you.

I think the culprit to the puff is overly porous hair. You might see better results if you try: ACV rinse, henna, cassia, or coconut oil.

For me, cassia/henna and safflower oil (even though it's technically a humectant) decreased my porosity to almost zero.

Interesting. I always thought I had low porosity hair. I may need to look into that. Thanks

deep condition your hair throughly and when you are done use a touch of aveda anti-humectant. the little jar lasts a long time.

HeChangedMyName, I think your mistake may be using leave-in moisturizers before you flat iron. They interfere with the adhesion of the anti-humectant to your hair and hence with its sealing. Not to mention that you end up heating up products that were never meant to be heated, which not only makes your hair stink, but who knows what reaction that creates with the anti-humectant.

The only thing that should be on your hair when you flat iron should be the heat protectant which usually is an anti-humectant. You should do all your moisturizing in the conditioning stage of your wash.

I have only ever used John Frieda Frizz Ease line (I'd recommend the heat protectants of the line) and they have never failed me.

My hair reverts even when plastic wrapped under a silk scarf with a plastic bonet over it for showers. And when I say revert, I mean from a hard press/flat iron to 70s 'fro. It skips that in-between puffy stuff. I'm not kidding either.

The only thing that HAS worked is the Mixed Chicks Straightening Serum. Next on my list to try is the Aveda Brilliant. But that is soooo pricey!

ETA Nonie is right. No other products between your hair and the heat-protectant/anti humectant

stay away from that fantasia ic:nono:

ok, soooo, I guess I'll be making my lunch time purchase trip BACK to the BSS to return this. lol I jumped the gun. its the pj in me.

Ohhhhhhh WOWWWW, that makes perfect sense. I ALWAYS use a leave in prior to doing anything to my hair. hmph! no wonder it comes out like silk when my stylist does it, she doesn't put anything on it when she flat irons it. except her magic juice stuff. lol

I might just be washing and re-flat ironing tonight. I will get this down pat. I went natural for the health and the diversity of styling. I hate not being able to wear my hair how I want to. . .when I want to. back to the drawing board.

Thanks ladies!

just like Nonie said, a good deep condiitioner and just a heat protectant spray or serum. the dc should be enough. i am relaxed, but i get a better flat ironing job when i do that.
