That is a sexy color. As far as damage, I don't know how much it may cause, but not all color-treated/relaxed heads have problems. You'll definitely need a permanent, and probably a booster to get it that high.

Denali, we have very similar hair color. Do you use Miss Clairol? I get Sunset Brown with a booster.

Yep, thats the color

... Ohh, I have a twin

I have highlights though... I got them done in July, so you know my touch-up time is past due!

Oh.. be careful with strong permanent hair color.
I just to have long hair before, but permanent hair color and frequent heat destroy my hair.

Sorry to say, but adding color that light is kind of hard on the tresses. It is very pretty, but I just had highlights and the hair that was highlighted was always drier and frizzier than the rest. And I condition at least twice a week. But keeping it conditioned is a big help, so if you're going to get this color, be prepared to do some major deep conditioning.

Well - I agree that you should be careful with color - but I think you could manage it if you wanted to. The first thing I would do is try using a demipermanent to lighten your hair a few shades - 1 or 2. if you're closer to a level 2 than 3 a demipermanent MAY just get you the brown ( a level 4 light brown; a level 3 - medium brown - might even be enough) you want. Then you could do highlights in the areas you want to take up to a paler blond with a permanent color...NOT bleach. You could just pick a pale blond in the same family of color (Clairol Textures and Tones and Clairol Hydrience for example...I'd prefer Textures and Tones - but I'm not sure they have a blond that will take you quite that light in the front - though I'll tell you, the Lightest Blond took me WAY light. WAY.)

This way you don't need straight bleach AND you get to try your hand a less aggressive approach by using the demiperm to see how easily your hair will lift. If you get a brown you like (or anything even close) to work with as your new base color, getting the blonder color will probably be a cinch...

The problem? Upkeep. I'd only do that process 2 or 3 times a year and you'd have to be careful about overlap. It's be hard to get a uniform look all the time. Are you relaxed?

You could probably just get a similar effect with highlights only. Your base color (the color the highlights sit on top of) would be darker - but you'd still be slightly sunkissed.

Thank you pumpkin...BTW...did you do the color you bought? Or are you waiting for that touch up? Sorry about the Aloetrixx....I have no idea where to find it. I've been racking my brain. I know a salon where they USE it, but I know they won't sell it. I know - I tried to convince them once.

I'm sitting here with Clairol's Textures and Tones 7G - Lightest Blonde because I'm itching to color my hair again... I'll never bleach it again, so I was wondering how I could raise my dark brown hair up to a sandy brown, and then highlight it blonde... According to the pic on the box, it looks like it will take my hair up quite a bit, but I know how deceiving that chart can be.

I think it'll work for you. It comes with a booster, so that gives extra lifting power.

No Tracy I havent used the color yet. Funny thing is, I think Im satisfied w/ my highlights now! But my touchup is on Saturday so we'll see....thanx for remembering!

You must also keep in mind that this color is on someone who doesn't have relaxed hair AND regularly wears weaves an wigs to achieve this color and protect her own hair. She also has naturally light brown hair which means the chemicals work faster to lighted her hair as opposed to a person with really dark hair which would require much more effort therefore much more damage. I work in advertising and I can tell you that these hair color ads also are misleading, a lot of the models wear wigs with scalp and all, to have you the consumer believe that this color is achievable when in fact the models wouldn't even strip thier hair to that extent. The smooth, silky looks...all retouching girls, it's like magic. We extend hair to make it longer, shorter, anything can be done. We even retouch black hair to make it look red, brown, purple...you name it.You will probably never see the damage it has or hasn't done to her hair. Take Mary J. Blige for instance, her hair always looks fabulous but she also said that she did so much damage to her hair from bleaching the roots constantly to blend in with the weave colors. I myself added highlights to my hair only to find the sections highlighted turned really dry compaired to the rest of my hair. If you really want it, just consider the amount of progress you have already made and the consequences for potentionally starting over. I myself will never go that route again....okay, maybe one more time, but it will require at lot of TLC to maintain and i'm barely able to keep it up now. Good luck.

I agree with Chilly the one thing I CAN say about my coloring advice is this...

It's sound, and I always suggest things I've actually done on my own hair, but WHENEVER I pick up a bottle of color I am perfectly willing to LOSE my hair and start over. Not to say that'd I'd be happy
smirk.gif
but I know the risk and I'm willing to take it.

You have to have this attitude when you color.

It CAN be fine now, more fine IMO than ever before, because color formulations are so much better for relaxed hair. But it can also go completely bad and you have to cut....that's just the color game though.....

All of my advice is tested tho - on me...so for whatever that's worth I offer it up...
