I've been using Phyto for over a year, and it really helps me hair feel nice and healthy after service, but it does not straighten my hair to the degree I want. I can live without being bone straight (although it's preferable when that tiiiiiiiiiiny little box is $60:lachen:), but I want it at least mostly straight. But it seems like the Index 2 is just not strong enough for my hair. I try to relax in stages, so I can spend my time focused on one area, but even that still leaves my new growth alive and kinky. Has anybody else had similar experiences with the Phyto?

I am scared of using it ;) due to the fact its NO-LYE my hair actually hates NO-LYE its has too much calcuim in it.Tha the only reason why i never tried it.

I just might go head try (PHYTO)my next relaxer retouch ,cause MOTION HERBAL RELAXER actin up for some odd reason it underprocess my hair this time.

I think it underprocesses on purpose. I experienced the same thing and had to discontinue use.

I found that one kit isn't enough for my new growth to really relax straight. I need one and a half kits to get it where I want to be which is just too costly for me.

I read in Kaddy's Phyto compilation thread that Phyto does not have the calcium, which makes it the best of both worlds of lye and no lye....the low ph and no calcium build-up.

yea that's what I was about to ask...I didn't think phyto had calcium.

Candita I'm sorry it doesn't work for you but Phyto is something I can't live w/out. I relax every 18 weeks and use the entire jar to get my 4a hair bone straight. Usually I get burns with other relaxers but I've been using Phyto for 3 years and never experienced any burns whatsoever. I guess that's the second reason why I'll never give up on Phyto. Anyway, let me stop rambling, Phyto is not for everyone so maybe it's better if you use something that will give you the desired result.

dang ive been reading some bad reviews on this product so far. it sounds too expensive to not do nothing. are you able to switch relaxers? or is this one of those types where you have to switch to one just like it?

Me either which is why I'm sticking to it. I don't want to get bone straight, I'm about 80-85% which is perfect for me.

phyto won't work for for everyone, also some people (not many but some) can be somewhat relaxer resistant. sucks but it can happen.

@OP: I found that phyto depends mostly on application rather than time on the head. I've found that if you use more, generally your hair gets straighter. But I can understand if you're not finding its whats best for you, sometimes its just the way it is.

Have you used other relaxers that seem to work better for your hair? it may be that if there's one that really worked well for you that it may be the one that you should go back to.

Thanks. I've been using it for a year and I really love how it makes my hair feel after using it, but after I relax I check and there's still all that underprocessed growth. I probably relax 10-12 weeks (I'm sooooooooo not a stretcher!:lachen:) because my new growth is course and is difficult to relax already, so with phyto, I always had to do my head in stages to try to smooth it out as possible. I'm thinking I may go back to my Revlon Lye relaxer.

I totally agree. I learned that by accident during my last relaxer. If you want your hair bone straight you need to apply it "generously."

I use index 1 to texturize and am satisfied but judging from my results, if I wanted really straight hair honestly, I'm not sure Phyto would do it for me. Even with index 2.

As another poster stated earlier in the thread, different heads definitely can yield different results even using the same product.

I use Index 2 and I can vary my hair based on how long I leave it in for a shorter period of time achieves lightly relaxed hair...leave it on longer achieves bone straight hair and never a burn in almost 2 1/2 years.

I love this product and it's unfortunate that it doesn't work for everyone (and becomes the 'devil relaxer' )-- that's just how the hair product game goes down sometimes...:ohwell:

I feel people have extremely high expectations for certain products. Its okay if something doesn't work for you.. I dont know of any one product that delivers positive results to 100% of people. I personally believe its a great relaxer for ME because ive used it consistently for about a year and a half now. If something doesn't work for you, you shouldn't feel pressured to "make it work" just because it seems to deliver for everyone else.

Phyto is too expensive to keep doing trial and error with, if its not straightening your hair the way you want it, please dont feel "bound" to it...
