I love this hairstyle but how?

I know this might be a dumb question but how did she get that height at the top I wonder? I think I could try this on rollerset hair but my hair falls flat on the top. I'm pretty sure hair spray would have to be used. Maybe I need more layers.

The second pic is my hair roller set and silk wrapped. Don't mind the purple clip ins I was playing around with.

Possible layers and maybe roller set for volume? Girl don't get me to lying bc I can't rollerset to save my life. But I do believe that's one way to get volume. Maybe run flat iron through the roots for that sleeker look.

ETA- for the flatness in the set have you tried rolling the opposite way? Check out the rollerset thread that I'm apart of but don't partake in lol. I suck so much at it. Smdh

For that top part you have to roll the hair so the roller sits directly on the center of the section. Its called rolling on base. You could use mousse or setting lotion a little less diluted than you normally use for thenlift and hold. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I think my hair goes flat when I do the silk wrap part.....maybe I'll try skipping that part.

Thnanks lol. I usually set my hair in ponytails cuz it's easier, have you ever tried that?

It looks like she did a side part that is far to the right of her head to help create the height. She also may have teased her hair a bit in the front with a comb to raise that front top area of her hair.

Hey, do you own Caruso rollers or any steam rollers? They give amazing body and shine that lasts. I was wearing a version of that style earlier this week (I say version because my layers fall between SL and BSB). I agree with crlsweetie912 about the technique, but steam rollers seem to give the most bounce and lift for me. I have to flat iron my hair first, but your texture looks like you could get away with simply blowdrying or stretching the hair before rolling.

Brush the crown forward over ur eyes then roll up and back away from ur face. This is easy to do with hot rollers on blow dried Bantu knotted hair. I grew up roller setting but I gave up on that. I can get the same look as this with blowdrying with my fingers until 80% dry, twist into 2-4 Bantu knots. Go to bed. In the am undo knots hit NG with flat iron ( no need if freshly relaxed). Brush out , hot roll ( I use the Sally's travel kit of 5 jumbo hot rollers 1 crown--3 Mohawk total 1 on each side). Looks similar to this. I don't use hairspray but u need some to keep it this high. I do this roughly weekly. HTH! Sent from my iPhone using LHCF image-1385871948.jpg

Back in the day, we used to use hairspray and hold the top section up with a round brush until it set (about 30 sec - 1 min).

My old hair dresser (late '80s/early '90s) would use a curling iron for that effect after pressing my hair. It would last for a few days.
