I Love Flaxseed

I sprinkle about 2 teaspoons of ground flaxseed in my food everyday. I've been doing this for over a year now. Well recently, I figured out that it has dramatically increased the level of oil my scalp produces. I originally started taking it because it contains omega 3 oils and lignans, which help with the brain's ability to function.

Then a few months ago, I heard, on this site, that it helps your scalp produce more oil. Well, now I can see the difference it has made. When I take it regularly, my scalp is oily only 24 hours after washing it.

Has anyone else taking this or a similar product seen these types of results? Just curious! :)

I am glad to hear this about flaxseed. I purchased a bag of it a few weeks ago, but I haven't used any of it yet. Do you know how long the shelf life is?This is just the motivation I need. Thanks for the post!!

I purchased a bag also and have yet to use it. How much do you put in your food and how many times a day?

It does have a short shelf life, something like 3 mon. I keep mine in the freezer so it won't go bad. It smells funny after a while, if you keep it too long.

I only use ~2 teaspoons/day.

Yes. I take flaxseed oil softgels, and that is the first thing I noticed: my scalp was producing more oil and no longer dry, and the skin on my face was no longer dry either.

I got great results from flax seed too. I've had dry skin all my life and when i began the flax seed oil my skin changed to smooth and moisterized. I started out using the oil, about 1-2 spoonfuls a day. I recently started using the capsules but, i prefer the oil.

Yep, it works!

Thanks for starting this thread. I have such a problem with dry skin on my face and scalp and nothing I have tried has helped. I might have to look into getting some.

I love flaxseeds too. I usually take flaxseed oil (make a salad dressing out of it) everyday and sometimes I'll sprinkle some on my salads or veggies. I keep whole ones in the fridge and grind what I need in a blender.

okay ya'll, I'll be a odd one here- I HATE flaxseed, because my man is ADDICTED to it (long before he knoew me and all my hair quirks) and puts it on everything (even when baking choco chip cookies:mad: ) and I am such a food purist that it ruins things for me. Plus he's Mr Tooty all the time!!

hey yall thanks for the tip. i always have dry scalp, flakes and dry hair so i went out and purchased the capsules. i am wondering for the ones who bought the oil and drink a tsp everyday....is the taste bearable? does it taste/smell like anything? I want to try drinking the oil since i think it'll get better results than a pill.

this stuff works miracles..the actual oil works very quickly to do its job.

i actually learnt the meaning of having oily hair when i used this for the 1st time

I bought the oil and haven't figured out how I am going to use it yet. But I do have oily skin already--so I guess I am wondering the same thing as chellee..will it make oily skin worse?

Yes I have noticed this, actually my scalp has been feeling too oily..I may need to lay off it for a while because I think that it's starting to cause build-up on my scalp

I don't eat the seeds because they can cause some I used to eat Uncle Sams cereal all the time, but flax seeds can have a laxative effect for some, which I used to just tolerate until I found the oil.

I've been taking the oil since 1998. I still get a bit of dry skin in the winter (at least its dry to me) but its never too bad, and the only time my scalp get truly oily is when I got this minifro underneath my relaxed hair.

Depends on the manufacturer will depend on how good the oil is. Udo's Choice is ok though I like spectrum brand because its nuttier and therefore really good for salad dressings. There's another one that I tried thats got a white label thats :barf: .

If you do protien drinks, you can start with a tablespoon or to in there its a good way to get it in, which will hide the taste, or you can make a salad dressing with it. just make sure you don't cook with it. (cause I know people that actually tried that... )

Same here, I take the softgels. I don't think I could stomach the oil. It made my skin and scalp nice and hydrated.

my hair used to be dry and corse, it is now soft and feels moisturised after washing it.....this is since i added flaxseed oil in my regime :)

I started taking flaxseed about a month ago because I read this thread and I can say I have had the same results as well. My scalp def produces more oil now and I don't have a problem with dry skin on my face anymore. I was kind of skeptical at first but I love, it will be in my regimen forever.

I started taking the flaxseed oil Saturday. The recommended daily dose says 1 tablespoon a day but I have been taking 1 teaspoon a day to start out. Do you think this is too little a dose for it to be effective? How long did it take you ladies to see some results of taking it?

you should start on a table spoon if you can stomach it. a teaspoon will work but not as quickly. why not take a teaspoon twice a day, morning and night. because when i take in the morning it works instantly and slows down during the night. if you take at 2 intervals you should get constand moisture

Thanks Candy, I will take the 1 tablespoon and get it over with. I don't think I would be consistant with it if I have to take it twice. I hate the aftertaste of it but it will be worth it if it will help with my dry scalp, skin, and hair. Thanks again.
