I am just asking because my sides are okay. They are smooth and even but my back, :nono: I think that March maddness cut semi layered me in the back and it just does look as good as the rest. I just relaxed and am very happy with my progress...until I look at the back. I am going to get my cousin to even it a little because I know she won't hack it off. Who else struggles with the back of their hair? What were possible causes of your peril, how did you fix it??

*raises hand*

I think the back of my head is an entirely different texture/type from the rest. I'd say the last 2-3 inches of my head just doesn't know what's going on, and the back center/crown section has it's own agenda as well. I have yet to find a solution :ohwell:

ETA: At first I thought that me self relaxing was the problem--the weirdness is around where I'd part my hair to apply relaxer, but I superbase and the other areas of my head are ok...so I dunno...

Theres a spot about the size of my palm in the back of my head that is just so scraggly and dry and also MOST of the NG i have is about 2 inches stretched, but that back portion is less then an inch long stretched. And like someone else said...its also a different texture. Its infuriating!

I dont really have to much of a problem with the sides except that they too are a different texture. ( temples)

So I am not the only one. I don't know why my back is like this. I don't curl it, I only rollerset. Maybe it has something to do with the way I protect my hair at night.

I guess this is my mission for the rest of the year.

Yeah, I guess the only thing you can do is focus more of your moisturizing in that area, and be more cognizant of what you're doing (or not) during the day that maybe aggravating that area.

Yeah, I think you are right. I think I am going to wait until my next relaxer to cut the area. Meanwhile I will try to pay more attention to what I do and don't do the area. It looks like my back is layered just a little bit so when I do get it trimmed I think I will just have them evened up so it looks like I did it on purpose.

Yes it is. I really haven't noticed this until today. I hope that making this area the focus for the next 8-9 weeks will help bring it back up.

My kitchen area has been jacked up for the longest. This is one of the reasons I found this board. I have definitely seen improvement here. Using a lot more moisture, WGHO, Vatika Oil, BT, and such, has made this area grow and I am actually maintaining growth. I have also been underprocessing this area during touch-ups. I think that is a major factor in the improvement. I also pay special attention to it with my conditioners, sometimes giving this area a little 'extra'. It is still a work in progress but it is getting better.

I have had an issue in the middle of the back of my head for years. At first it would break off on the sides of the middle and then sometimes go up. But for the last 2-3 years it has been exactly in the middle. All my hair on the top and around the perimeters is fine but for about 5 inches across and 3 inches high, I have severe breakage. Before it would grow back normal but now it's taking forever to grow back although it is closing in very, very slowly. I know a lot of it is stress. I have been wearing a wig for a while because of it. Maybe the wig isn't helping but my damage circle is really bad and I don't know what else to do.
I ordered the BT about a week ago and should get it next week,so I am hoping that along with vitamins will work. If not I may try the horse stuff, but that will be the last thing and then I guess I will cut it.
Sorry for the long post, but this has been plaguing(sp?) me for a while. I was getting really good at taking care of my hair and I grew it out pretty long (for me) but then I started to get this little itch in the back of my head and it has been downhill from there.

I am getting the same thing. Right in the back in the middle strip. I was thinking about what I can do last night and I think that atleast me me, my sit under dryer is making it worse. Most of the heat gets concentrated on that section so I am going to try another way of rolling it and I am going to make sure I use heat protectant serum on those parts.

The middle back of my hair was always the first thing to break off when things went wrong with my hair. I have had this problem since I was a little girl. The back of my hair is a very different texture from the top, and I always have to take extra care of it.

My back is jacked up. My hair grows very long on the sides. Just 8 weeks ago I had to cut it off in the back due to the breakage. I am now wearing my hair long on the sides and short in the back (the bob). But no matter how long I stretch my relaxer, I don't get new growth back there. I condition it much more than the other areas. I am still nursing it back to good health.

It sounds like we are having the same hair issues. For years, I had trouble with my back/middle of my nape, and then I got a hairdresser that cared about my hair, cut the damaged portions, and braided/weaved for maybe a year and a half, relaxing maybe one a year. Then for about two years, all I did was rollerset, and wrap or cover with a bonnet, and all of my hair thrived.

Then in Feb., I started experiencing significant breakage in the back of my head . But the sides of my hair remained beautiful, strong and healthy. For me, I think it was a combination of a poor diet, and not moisturizing enough back there. My hairdresser also suggested that wrapping my hair may have contributed to the problem. I gradually snipped between February and April. Boundless tresses did wonders for me, and I think it really helped the area of the breakage play catch up to the rest of my hair. Then when I got this last relaxer, it was cut even, as if I intended on cutting my longer layer for a summer cut. Honestly, I wanted to cut it more gradually, but when I asked how much my hairdresser planned on cutting, she said "not much, about an inch", so I didn't give her any instructions. She cut maybe 2.5 in, and while I was initially upset, and I'm not thrilled with it (I just don't like this length on me, I was braided up during this length before), I believe it was for the best. My plan now is to nurture and baby that area. I've also been doing co-washes, deep conditioning, and protein treatments, which I believed helped stop the breakage before my cut. Good luck with getting the back of your hair under control!

I think wrapping does make it worse. I am going to try getting the back trimmed up so I can do a semi-asymmtrical look for a while. I am thinking if I trim an inch now and another before september, I should have gotten alot of the damage out. At this point, screw my other goals. My back is all I am worried about. I also need to start pinning it up again. My boyfriend pointed out that the back gets rubbed the most by my clothes.

I have the exact same problem, since I was a little girl too. Its always the same section. I just figured that my hair had a different life cycle back there. It breaks off really short (the last time it did this was about 7 years ago) and then somehow manages to catch up really quickly

my back is totally JACKED UP!!!!

I was in H & M trying on clothes (in the changing rooms they have like 360 mirrors) and I caught sight of the back of my head   ... I said to myself why hasn't no-one told me my nape looks soo messed up.. I wear my hair up everyday  .. I have like two bald spots there

Ive started applying some azole based creams to see if that will work
