i bought peppermint oil finally and i applied a little bit ( 5 drops ) to my prepoo mix and man oh man, my hair feels sooo great and it has a cooling feeling that i cannot explain. i felt the tinglies earlier but now my whole head feels like i have ice on it (maybe because i am sitting under the air conditioner in my house) but i had to have my own newbie rave about peppermint oil because it is definitely a keeper.

Peppermint oil is a beautiful thing :rolleyes:

Here's some info about it we Lushies (I work at Lush, if you wonder what the heck a Lushie is) keep handy if customers want to know about the ingredients we use in our products

PEPPERMINT OIL

[FONT=Arial Narrow,Arial Narrow]
Latin Name: Mentha piperita

Origin: Native to Europe, but now also grown in USA and Japan. Apparently best Peppermint comes from England, as it loves the damp conditions! The Stem can reach up to 3 feet tall and has slightly hairy serrated leaves with purple spike flowers. The oil comes from the leaves. It has been used for thousands of years, mainly for its digestive properties by the Romans and Egyptians before them. It’s a great tonic and stimulant for the digestive system. Biggest use for this oil is in the toothpastes, confectionary and medicines.

Benefits on Skin: Peppermint Oil is exothermic, meaning it will react with the body to either ‘warm up’ or ‘cool down’ but should always be diluted before applying to skin. Wonderful stimulant.
Benefits on Hair: Stimulates the circulation in the scalp, promoting strong, healthy hair growth.
Benefits on Mind: Helps one focus, aids concentration and alertness.

:yep:

Peppermint oil is my ish.
....along with Tea Trea oil, Jojoba, Sweet almond, Soybean and I LOVE Avocado oil. It's very light but full of nutrients.

Question@TOOTRENDY: So what is the big difference between Rosemary and Peppermint. I know you can't use rosemary if you're pregnant. But besides that...?

The other day, i did a peppermint rince, posted by samanthajones67 but today, I put some drops in my V05 when I co-washed and love it. Its a keeper for me too.:yep: I love the tingle that peppermint gives.

I love peppermint oil. I put some in coconut oil and massage my scalp the night before I wash sometimes. Feels good.

glad it worked for you, but be sure not to overdo it!

now, this could be because i might have an allergy to peppermint... (burt's bees delicious lip balm gives me hives :sad:)

but i've found that peppermint essential oil gives me MASSIVE headaches that last for days on end. try not to use it straight on your scalp, and dilute thoroughly. (if you are sensitive to peppermint and/or menthol).

I really like peppermint eo, the tingle is wonderful.

Poookie, is absolutely correct. No EO should be applied directly to the skin without being diluted; they are too potent.

good looking out! i never use oils by itself, i mixed it with a cheapie con and other oils for my prepoo and i never had that feeling before.

i just got over a 3 day headache after shampooing and deep conditioning with giovanni tea tree triple treat (contains peppermint oil and menthol, and stupid me didn't think to check beforehand). if you can help it, don't leave peppermint essential oil on your scalp for more than 10 minutes.

ugh... :perplexed

My baby sis, Cincysweetie has been telling me about Peppermint Oil for years and I still have yet to get some!:wallbash:

I bet it feels wonderful. I'm gonna stop playing and get some soon. Can I get it at the health food store?

Sorry it took me so long. I was at work. We were talking about this a while ago and I told them it wasn't recommended for pregnant ladies. They had no idea what I was talking about :look: I had them look it up of course, and yep, we discovered it may induce contractions...

ROSEMARY

[FONT=Arial Narrow,Arial Narrow]
Latin Name: Rosmarinus officinalis
Origin: Native to the Mediterranean, now grown in all over the world and renowned for its uplifting, herby fragrance. Popular for cuisine as well as cosmetics.
Benefits on Skin: Slightly antiseptic and encourages the circulation to help flush out toxins and is a great skin rejuvenator. Good for acne, dermatitis and eczema. Balances sebum. Insect/lice repellent.
Benefits on Hair: Promotes shine and is detoxifying for the scalp. Also promotes hair growth and is good for oily hair. A tonic for the scalp.
Benefits on Mind: Helps with headaches, hypotension, neuralgia, mental fatigue, nervous exhaustion and stress.

I used to use peppermint oil all the time, up until I got pregnant and the smell made me sick. I added a few drops in my shampoo. And I had a concoction for my thinning temples and edges: peppermint oil, rosemary oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin e oil. (when i stop breastfeeding, i'll go back to it).
