Welcome CountryBumpkin! Cute name :)

MSM is a naturally occuring compound found in our bodies, as well as animals and plants. It's water soluble and even in large amounts, MSM is safe.

Sulfur comes out of the ground, it's a mineral made by millions of years of compression in the earth. Some people are allergic to it and it's toxic in large amounts. It's partially water soluble, but doesn't dissolve well at all in oil mixtures, which is why you have to shake the mixes before each use.

HTH! :D

Thanks so much!

Ok, so I have another question: does msm applied topically to the scalp increase growth, or does it only increase growth when taken internally?

I have some MSM capsules by Nature's Way, and I don't know if I didn't take them long enough or what, but they just did squat for me.

I have been using MN and noticing results. I also noticed a jump in growth after started taking vitamin D and using a sulfur shampoo, but I don't know from which the growth came from.

How long did you take the MSM? Typically, the general rule is that you need to take a supplement for at least three months to be able to see the benefits.

There are a few growth aids that contain MSM and I'm using one of them: Camille Rose Ultimate Growth Serum. I really like it and am getting really good growth- about an inch a month, I think. As far as I can remember, this growth aid is the best I've used.

In my mind, MSM helps increase growth more because it's naturally made in our bodies. So when ingested or applied to the skin, it's more easily absorbed and assimilated into the system. Especially since, as we get older, the levels of MSM drops drastically, so the body greedily drinks it right on up. Of course I'm not sure that this is the case, but it makes sense in my head. :spinning:

It's hard to say what's giving you growth right now. How long have you been using MN and the sulfur shampoo?

I started using the sulfur shampoo and taking vitamin D before I started to use the MN.

I have dreadlocks, and when I got the sulfur shampoo, I heard sulfur/salicylic acid combination shampoo or soap bars was good for scalp smell and dandruff. I wasn't thinking about growth at the time. So i started washing my locs with it and got dramatic improvements with my scalp. I ordered it and the vitamin D at the same time and started using it at the same time. I notice that the vitamin D did help my skin and mood improve in general. This was back in the fall, and my amount of sunlight every day was being reduced.

After a couple months, I tightened my dreadlocks, and went to show my husband how dramatic the growth was. I still didn't know about sulfur, and thought it was from the vitamin D. Then I found this site and learned that it could have also been from the sulfur in the shampoo.

My scalp is better now, and I only use the shampoo once a week and the growth slowed down a bit, and that's when I started using MN. It's hard to keep my locs tight now because the new growth comes in so fast, but yet the growth is still not quite what it was the first time i went full force every other day with that sulfur shampoo. I use mn dialuted with aloe vera juice and some cayenne pepper in a plastic ketchup bottle with the narrow nozzle and apply it to the parts at my scalp every other day. I guess i'm kinda turning product junkie, though, because i was wondering if i should add a little something to it. :look: I guess i'd like to get that twice a week sulfur dose that I was getting back when I was washing my hair every other day. Without having to wash it every other day like I use to.

It's the stuff monistat 7 is made out of, yeast infection cream.

MSM extends ur growth cycle so u shed less hairs. Vitamin D helps regulate ur mood. I Have been taking both since November along with Biotin and my hair def sheds and breaks less!
