Hi, I've been lurking this site for a couple of weeks now.
I finally got the money to actually subscribe to the site today.

Anyways..

I don't know what type of hair I am.
I just know that it is kinky. 4b-4c + I guess.

My hair is currently 4 months post relaxer.

Before I found this site my routine for my hair was the following.
-Wash every 2 weeks.
-Deep condition at wash.
-Blowdry
-Hotcomb. (I now know that this is VERY bad on relaxed hair D:)
-Use a curling iron 1-2 times a week. W/O any heat protection. :nono:
-Oil scalp 2-3 times a week

After lurking around, I think my regimen should be..
-Wash once a week
-Deep condition at wash
-Blowdry with round brush?
-Rollerset
-Pincurl hair to sleep
-moisturize and oil every other day ..or night?

Please let me know if I should tweak anything. :yep:

The Questions:

I've noticed that some people deep condition differently.

The way I currently do it is.. After my hair is washed I put a little bit of conditoner and put a shower cap on. Then go under the dryer for 20 min. Then wash it. Is that the best way for going at it?

I've heard that mineral oils are bad for your hair & essential oils are better.

The stuff I use in my hair are:
Hollywd. Beauty Castor oil & mink oil

Palmers Olive Oil Formula http://a1468.g.akamai.net/f/1468/580/1d/pics.Drugstore.com/prodimg/149793/200.jpg
Hot six oil

Are those products bad?
Sometimes when I use 'a lot' my hair feels really greasy.

What moisturizer would you guys suggest?
I think my hair has a natural dry texture.
When I go too long with out putting moisturizer in my hair it gets really brittle and hard to comb.
Some stuff just makes my hair really oily and greasy.

When you guys say that you are using oils like castor oil
what kind of form is it in. like the cream product I posted above or is it in oil form? Is it mixed with other stuff or just Pure 100% oil

SORRY FOr making this so long and lengthy. D:

Welcome!

I think if you could learn to rollerset and skip the blowdrying at least some of the time you'd be in great shape. If you are going to blowdry make sure to use a heat protectant.

It your products are working for you, stick with them. I think it's best to not change too much at the same time. Once you incorporate new techniques and do more research on ingredients, then change your products if you need to. A lot of people use 100% natural oils in their liquid form (though coconut oil is solid at room temp). Coconut, castor, and olive are my favorites and are commonly used.

I can't remember if you said this but make sure to incorporate some protective styling. Your DC technique is fine, just make sure all your hair is getting conditioner on it and leave it for longer if you find you're having problems detangling or with dryness.

1. Welcome to the forum!! :)
2. Your revised regimen sounds like a good plan to me.
3. I recommend Africa's Best Liquid Hair Mayo for a leave-in.
4. I definitely recommend moisturizing your hair, and sealing it with an oil, every few days to keep your hair from being too dry.
5. When I use castor oil it is the 100% liquid oil form. Most of the oils I use (including coconut and jojoba) are their pure forms, without anything added.

Good luck to you on your hair journey.

Thank you guys.
Could I find an oil in its pure form at a hair beauty supply store?
Or would I have to go to a grocery store

I'm not too sure what protective style I could wear.
My hair is short so when I put it in a bun it's really small and it comes loose easily.
I don't want to wear braids atm because, I want my hair to be stronger.

some beauty supply stores have essential oils depending on which one
you should definitely find them in a grocery store
and whole foods definitely has them!

thanks for all the welcomes. =]

@sharifeh- thanks. I'll def. check next time I go to the store

I've heard that mineral oils are bad for your hair & essential oils are better.

I just want to clarify for you: mineral oil is a specific type of oil--baby oil is mineral oil. Essential oils are very strong and should be used with a carrier oil, which is what I believe you're thinking of. Essential oils are those like peppermint, sage, rosemary, lavender, that tend to come in tiny dark expensive little bottles. Just a few drops will do just fine! I get mine mostly at Whole Foods.

Carrier oils, like castor, coconut, olive, avocado :lick:, are what me and a lot of women use for our hair. I also get mine at Whole Foods, though I've gotten some at Vitamin Shoppe too. I just want to make sure you don't get confused if you go in the store and ask for essential oils and see these absurdly tiny little bottles!!

Regarding your routine, I agree with msa that you'll want to minimize blowdrying as much as possible, and really get your rollerset technique down. I know a lot of people struggle with rollersetting, but once you get the hang of it it's not that bad (I did my own rollersets for 11 years before I went natural). Othewise I think your routine looks pretty good.

Good luck, and WELCOME!!
