I have natural 4b hair in braids and I wish to cowash daily but..

Everytime I do my hair instantly fuzzes out of my extensions, which instantly destroys the style as all my hair fuzzes out at once.
However, I love to daily cowash, is there any way I could get round this problem?

I have 4b hair and braids right now and my hair is super fuzzy from co-washing. I know that doesn't answer your question, but it seems like there's no way around that. I do find that if I tie my hair down and sit under the dryer for a little bit, it doesn't fuzz as bad.

This does work. I have a mesh shampoo cap that's specifically for this purpose...got it at the bss. And sometimes I just shampoo or co-wash my scalp, without getting the length of the braids wet.

If I really can't handle any more fuzzies, I just clean my scalp with cotton pads soaked in witch hazel. It works very well, and is not drying.

I just got kinky twists last week, it was the only thing I could think of to finally solve the fuzzy braids problem. Well, it didn't completely solve the problem, but the fuzzy look kind of blends in with the twists LOL.

This would work. Or you could also dilute your condish, that was you won't have to rub as much. Or you even use the two techniques together!

Hey I would never laugh at a new idea! This is LHCF that's quite mild compared to some of the things I've heard on this forum. Thank you I'll try this!

Does anyone think maybe placing gel after I cowash would help too?
That's a point, is it actually the water or rubbing in the condition that makes it fuzz so bad?, if not the latter I'm getting a mesh cap.

I was going to "thank" this post. I'm in corn rows right now, and when I wash them, I condition them and sit under the dryer. When I rinse I put product on and then tie it down and sit under the dryer.

They still get a bit fuzzy, but not as bad. If you're doing a daily co-wash for conditioning, maybe you could do a DC w/ the braids and wash every 3 days or so, then repeat. Maybe that will help you if moisture is your point of daily washing. If clean scalp is the point, try using ACV when you wash them -- but do so more spaced apart. HTH.

I co-wash my cornrows whilst wearing a stock cap. Got the idea from Den1 a few years ago. It definitely helps to reduce the frizz

you could also just try tying a do rag or scarf tight over your hair and then "patting"....it works for me

Again thank you, I do already sleep with a satin cap and a silk pillow. I must say this has greatly reduced the frizz, but I don't know if it will be effective after washing my hair a couple of times...now I must find a stocking that will fit round my head.

I am 4b natural and I don't care about fuzzy hair because that's my hair and when I go get professional braids I don't let them put those scissors on my head becasue that frizziness is my hair.

I have conrows and after a week they became super frizzy.......oh well.

If my hair was as long as my extensions I wouldn't mind, but I'm wearing bra strap length extensions and I have a neck length afro. When it fuzzes out it looks very odd.

I've been in kinky twists for about 7 weeks now. the first 2 weeks was ridiculous and I realized I could only cowash once per week and keep manipulation low. so now when I cowash, the purpose is to clean the scalp more than moisturize the hair..(i depend on the spritz/sprays to do that or sometimes I would just spritz with water). its really bad for me, because my hair maybe only about 5 inches so the fuzzz is like at the middle-beginning of the plait and looks a mess. i found my new method 'worked' because after getting the edges re-done (3 weeks ago) its just now looking fuzzy.
I'll keep the other suggestions in mind for when I put them in again. great thread!

Try the stocking way...an old member here Den (Denise) "invented" it years back. See if you like it. There should be an old post about it somewhere here.

Also, I think you can avoid this problem next time by not straightening you hair before putting extensions in. When you do that, washing causes shrinkage which is why the hair gets fuzzy. If it's pre-shrunken before braiding, not much change happens when you wash. When I wash my braids, the ends beyond my hair are what gets untidy after several washes. The part containing my hair does change much because it cannot shrink anymore and therefore cannot change the way it looks. Plus because it's 4B, it stays braided unlike the extension hair beyond it.

That's interesting. I never straighten before braiding, but the tension of the braids holds my hair straight. The more I wash, the fuzzier it gets, as my natural hair starts to slip out of the braid pattern.
