Here are my questions:

  1. Which relaxer should I use (Since my pocket ain't that deep, I am looking for something affordable but good)
  2. What other products do I need? Shampoo, Conditioner and what?
  3. What process should I use?
  4. Any other information I need?

Calm down, its not my hair....its my cousin's hair lol

I have lost my relaxing skills and for the sake of my cousin and her hair, I need them back.

:spank: :spank: :spank: NOW...I'm definitely not a Natural Nazi, but I was about to come in here and raise you know what!!!! Don't do that girlie!!!!

Ok...Carry On!

ETA: I see in your title that you said "I have decided to relax hair today"...you didn't say YOUR hair...but still :nono:

Didn't NAIR ONE OF YALL answer the question! :lachen:
I really like the Silk Elements at Sally's.
You definitely need a neutralizing shampoo and a conditioner. (I always use a mid level protein followed by a moisturizing condtioner)
I start by basing my scalp (hair grease or something like that) then part in 4 sections, I start application on my most resistant part (middle) and do my edges last.

Research the posts where the experts are on all things relaxer. There is a boat load of information on how to do this the right way.

*catches breathe and and drops belt*

When I was relaxed and would go to a stylist I preferred Mizani. If I self relaxed I loved Silk Elements Shea Butter relaxer. You MUST have a neutralizing shampoo and if possible a protein DC like aphogee 2 minute.

I would base my scalp with vaseline and apply my relaxer using thehalf and half method.

After processing and would rinse well, use neutralizing shampoo to check if it was all gone. Once I got a clean white lather I would leave it on my hair for two minutes just to be sure and then rinse it out.

Then I would protein DC for 20 minutes with no heat. then rinse.

after that i would apply leave in and heat protectant and blow dry my hair.

You know you wrong though, right? :lachen:

If you don't feel confident i would tell you cousin to go to someone else. Otherwise, I recommend the typical parting in four sections method. Base the scalp AND the hair to prevent over processing on already relaxed hair. I think the new Motions kit has all the stuff you need.

You scared me! I was looking at the words and started screaming nnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! at work no less.
Anyhoooo..........
Most of the people i know that relax swear by mizani butter blends????

I'll answer with what I do..I'm relaxed and BSL

Which relaxer should I use: Optimum No-Lye Salon Collection (pic above)

What other products do I need? The kit already has a good reconstructor. Even a base to coat her previously relaxed ends. The only thing you will probably want to get is a moisturizing conditioner to deep conditon

What process should I use? This is a big DUHH but only apply only to newgrowth. Also do a mid-relaxer protein step with th reconstructor in the box, or a sperate one like Joico Kpak or Aphogee 2 Min

Any other information I need? if you don't feel 100% comfortable with relaxing her hair, have her go to a stylist. Although it's more expensive nothing worse than damaging your cousin's scalp and causing permanent hair loss just to save a few dollars

She is previously relaxed.
Ok.
I use ORS Olive Oil Relaxer ($7-$9 depending on where you get it)

Be sure to protect hairline and ears with vaseline.

Apply the most resilient part first, nape and edges last.

Section according to the parts. I part my hair 5 ways (nape, edges, top, middle, sides)

Cover the previously relaxed hair with conditioner, oil, or vaseline. (I use conditioner)

This box comes with the shampoo and conditioner, but if you need more make sure you use a neutralizing shampoo.

Use a PC after the final rinse.

So are you trying to get your skills back up because your cousin's hair needs saving? If so I feel where you are coming from. I will say this though, if you pick a relaxer this time that doesn't work you can always try another next time. I use ORS.

And yes I came into this thread like nooooooo:lachen:

The best relaxer I used, back when I had one, was the linange shea butter relaxer. It left my hair in way better condition than previously used relaxers did. I had to get it online though.

Thanks. Yes, her hair is in need of some TLC, I don't know if I want to take on the tast of saving it because I don't have the skills I used to have when I was relaxed. Problem is I am the only one who can attempt to try. She is only 16 (well actually I think she is old enough to start learning to do her own hair. Atleast the washing and conditioning part...right?).
I don't think her mom is gonna pay for her to see a stylist, especially since she knows that I know a thing or two about hair:look:

I do her hair from time to time, but I have lost touch with relaxing because I don't do it that much.

I was just thinking wow you're brave to ask advice on relaxing your hair on here
I was getting ready for the:gotroasted:
