Hi everybody! My name is Ashley and I've been a member since February of last year. I'm glad that I have had a chance to gain some hair knowledge from you wonderful ladies. Despite two MAJOR setbacks (self-inflicted) I have still achieved some progress. When I cam my hair was about 1-1.5 inches past my shoulders, now it is grazing my brastrap after several trims. I am still working to gain back some of the volume I lost b/c of the setbacks, but I have no doubt that with the things I learned here that I can do it. Please excuse my album. I just learned how to use this digital camera so the lighting/angles are VERY off and the quality isn't very high. But I think you can get a pretty good idea of where I am. I willl add more as I go along. My hair type is 4A/B.

Thanks for the responses, they were unexpected! As far as products I use strictly drug store products. I typically used cream of nature, lustrasilk cholsterol (aloe kind), VO5 strawberries & Cream, Motions Silk Protein, CPR or Moisture Plus. However for the past month or so I have I stuck to the NTM line. For Daily moisture I use Elasta QP Oil Moisturizer,WGO, or Kemi Oyl.

Gorgeous length!! If you dont mind sharing...what were the setbacks? Whatever they were your hair seems to have recovered well. :)

I ask because if they were "self-inflicted" you might save one of us from making the same mistake.

GREAT pictures!!!! Your hair is gorgeous! And I see that you are an NTM fan...I'm telling you, my hair has never looked better since using NTM. LOVE the line. Please let us know if you update again. :)

Thanks for all the responses! My major setbacks took place this summer. One of the major things stressed on this forum is airdry, airdry, airdry. I did this religiously even though my roots became a kinky mess, I was naive and thought my stylist could figure it out a touch up time. But I soon realized that since I was about 12 weeks into my relaxer that their would be no way that she could even apply it within the time constraints. So 2 Hours, a bottle of VO5 later I was left with two HANDFULS of hair. A week later my roots and hair kinked up again so stupidly I tried to blowdry it while completely dry because I had somewhere to go which, spelled BREAKAGE! When I finally went to the hair dresser but came out severely underprocessed. A week later I decided to try my sample of KeraCare because I heard how detangling it was, BIG MISTAKE! It had my hair in knots, and I lost another handful of hair. I came to realize that airdrying past a cetain stage in my relaxer was not for me and I began rollersetting or flat ironing periodically. It all comes down to doing what is best for YOUR hair, not everyone elses.

Your hair grows fast!! One would never know you had setbacks - your hair looks so long and pretty!

I really like the bolded part...excellent point.

Your hair looks great. I am with you about airdrying after a certain period. I am going to start rollersetting after 11 wks. I am trying to stretch.

Thanks for the positive responses! It makes me feel as though my hard work was worth it. Somebody asked me to take pictures of my products. I will do so when I have more time, but I have listed the products I use somewhere in this thread. As far as a regimine, I do not have a set one. I listen to what my hair "says". If it is breaking I do a light protein (about once a month). Otherwise I just use some of the conditioner already mentioned. I usually wash every week but sometimes I get lazy. As far as drying, I usually rollerset (I may blowdry/flatiron close to touch-up time because my roots are so kinky).

Your hair looks great. I can't wait to see more pics. Happy growing!

BTW- your story will probably help alot of people!
