I was talking to my mom about the things I'm learning on this board, and telling her that I was going to try a hot oil treatment but I didn't have a bonnet dryer, and she was like, oh you can have mine. I was like

I didn't even know she had one! So we went in her bathroom and she was digging way back in her closet (she and my dad are sort of closet pj's

) and she pulls out this old soft bonnet dryer. It's called Natural Wonder Hair Dryer by a company called Dazey. It's peach colored with a white bonnet. She told me I could have it since she never uses it any more. Yay!! I'm sitting right now with EVOO soaking into my tresses with a plastic cap and my new dryer on. Do you guys ever get sleepy with one of these things? The sound of the dryer and the gentle heat on my head is starting to make my eyes droopy...

I just got some suave clarifying shampoo yesterday for $.97 so I'm going to use that afterwards, and then use my GPB. I am sooooo excited. I'll tell you how it turns out...

That's cool

I may need one of those for when I'm away at school. I hate sitting under the dryer... it's so boring! I have to do something like play game boy or listen to music.

Girl, my bonnet dryer makes me SOOOOOO sleepy. I think it's the white noise from the humming. It puts me right to sleep.

Sitting under the dryer makes me relaxed. You're probably correct in that it's the white noise that's soothing. When I'm home, I sleep with a fan on even during the winter, because it helps me sleep!

Does anyone know where I can get a soft bonnet dryer for cheap? My mom used to have one and I loved it,the noise was soothing and I could dry my hair anywhere even in bed reading a book. The only dryers I seem to find are the hard hood ones.

Sally's beauty Supply usually have a few. But even if they don't have one right on hand some stores will do special orders. Or you can buy one online.

I love my soft bonnet dryers. Sometimes my girls get sleepy with it on and I send them to bed and turn it off after 30 mins ( I keep an eye on them). I have done the same on occasion as well. I have the Lazy Dazy (new) and the Natural Wonder Hair Dryer (old). I've had my Natural Wonder forever. Both are from the mother company of Helen Of Troy.

Blackcardinal, take good care of your bonnet the replacements that I purchased just don't stay on as good. That model isn't made anymore but that is a darn good hair dryer. The key is to unfasten it when your finished and store it in the compartment after the unit cools down. The elastic string is what's subject to go bad. Oh, If you ever hear any strange noise when it's running years and years from now just get someone to but some machine oil in the fan unit and it will be good as new again. HTH!

Well it's done! I'm very happy with how my hair turned out. I just saw this other thread about clarifying shampoos and realized it was kinda silly to do a hot oil treatment and then clarify, but oh well. It was just a little olive oil. Anyway, I definitely noticed better results from my conditioner. My hair had sooo much slip after I used the GPB and a little suave humectant. It was practically tangle free!
I gave myself a much needed trim..almost a cut considering how much I had to get rid of

But it looks worlds better. I finally took some pictures with my digital camera (I had issues with finding a driver to work with my computer) so I'm going to find one of those free accounts to post them in. I'm so happy now I'll get to document my hair journey with pictures!

Spagirl thanks for the advice. I'll take good care of it!

Blackcardinal I viewed your photos, your hair looks so nice and even. Before you know it you'll be reaching your goal.

I like to lay down and read a book and yes I do fall asleep under mine...I don't mind the wait until it drys as much as I do under a hard bonnet(I fall alseep and have a hard time stitting up straight).

cocoa dose the soft dryer dry your hair good like the hard dryer do b/c i have a hard one and i could sit under that thing forever and amen and not be dry and that's on a high setting one problem i have is i don't like to sit under the dryer i rather blowdry and get it over with but i am trying to get out of that habit. Do you recommend the soft or the hard dryer?

I have the soft bonnet dryer by Gold 'N' Hot and I don't like it much. Blackcardinal, I am glad yours is good. I think the ones they made back in the day (like Dazey) were the top notch ones.

I love sleeping with the fan on for that reason. You can buy white noise now too.

I have a soft bonnet dryer but the bonnet is torn. I'm looking for a new extra large one.

It takes my hair twice as long to dry w/ a bonnet dryer. Also, the curlers are getting too big to fit into that piece!!!

There are some really nice ones on Ebay. Go to Health & Beauty -> Hair Care and type 'bonnet dryer' into the search box. There are a couple of Lady Dazey's (soft and hard) and at least one Natural Wonder. I kinda like the old ones from the 50's and 60's!

I figure the bonnets would be bigger because of the big hairstyles they wore back then...
