I've been looking for horsetail since late September and could not find it. Yesterday I started my series of powerwalks (to keep my body firm) and I happened to look down and saw a whooooooole lot of horsetail. I uprooted three plants, took them home, washed them, boiled some water and put the plants to soak in the water. I will apply this to my hair topically even though the ultimate benefits are reaped when taken internally; I'm too scared to try that.

I will give it a try and if I notice any significant difference I will report back to you. Maybe one day I will try drinking the tea. By the way, this is Equisetum Arvense and not Equisetum Palustre (which can be potentially poisonous).

Hi Sweetnic,
Sorry, but I've never heard of "horsetail". From reading your post it's a plant. What benefits does it have to the hair? Very Curious

Sweet: Well, you CAN use what you found either fresh or dried. Horestail "brewed" in a tea for a rinse is nice. You can also infuse it into your hair oils. Topical application (like w/ nettle) have benefit for hair too.

Peachtree...horsetail is a plant origin of silica. Here's some info on the herb and it's uses and silica as a (trace) mineral.

About horsetail:

About silica in a product description:

Maybe a silly question:

But how cool that you knew it was horsetail - how on earth did you know?????

SweetNic,

I'm so glad you found some. Mmm...topical application is awesome for your hair in a concentrated or other herbal rinse. Horsetail/coltsfoot...great for shine, strength and growth

Waves to you,

I've been researching this plant for FOREVER. It has some general characteristics that I look for so I know hot to spot it out. I thought it was weird that I just spotted it out immediately. I just looked down on the ground and I was like "HORSETAIL!" If I said it a little louder you would
have thought I struck gold.

Thanks for the like Jamara

Here's a photo. Keep in mind that there are various species and they don't all look alike. Here's an index of some of the different types

If it works I'll try to learn to identify it too! Tho I'll probably be hard pressed to find any growing in the cracks of the sidewalks of this dirty old city....

LOL...Jade21 can it be you...from all those boards all those years ago?! LOL, if so, "HI" ...if you don't remember me, I SURE remember you!

Sweet...BTW, congrats on your plant ID. The funny thing is, many of the most beneficial medicinal herbs grow wild in the strangest places...side of the road, empty lots, etc...and many are regarded as weeds by those who don't know what they're looking at. However, if you know what you're looking at and harvest properly, you can save yourself alot of money and probably get "wildcrafted" quality (just below organic in terms of eco friendly and chemical free, if we're talking a nonendangered species, that is) to boot.

In a way, you DID strike gold as far as your hair is concerned! Congrats again!
