My sister brought from some stuff called Ratchette Organic. It has zero petrolatum but her friend told her it makes her hair grow. It has ingredients like jojoba, ginger, indian hemp, ylang ylang. Have any of you ever heard of this? I did a search online and cannot find anything about it but it is organic and expensive! $!4.95 for a 6 ounce jar!

This may sound like a dumb question but what is the deal with petroleum again? i use grease on my daughters hair and they all have petroleum in them. Is this bad for the scalp?

Some say it dries the hair from the inside out because it keeps moisture out. It supposedly clogs the scalp and hinders hair growth. I had my scalp greased several times a week as a child and my hair still grew. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif But I avoid it now because it doesn't do anything good for my hair. It makes my hair feel hard and it just sits there looking greasy and collecting dirt and dust. It's hard to wash out, too.

ETA:
I don't know anything about this Rachette stuff. But there are plenty of petrolatum/mineral oil free "greases". Mijara, Willie Morrow Hair & Scalp Sheen (smells yummy), Natural Island (my fave!) and the Kid's Organics products are a few that come to mind...

maybe i will check out th ekids organics line. i keep hearing about their products but haven't tried them for deja yet. i was using creme of nature poo and conditioner and salerm 21 as a leave in. as for grease, i was using Dax or glovers nedicated. she has extremely dry scalp so i have been using the glovers and dandruff shampoos. i wonder if the petroleum builds up on her scalp and therefore causes dryness.

Sassy where can I get the greases that you metioned? TIA

/images/graemlins/wave.gif Hi Stranger!

Lucky for you, Michael Stone has a website now and you can order online. /images/graemlins/grin.gif I got mine from a bss in Raleigh. It was cheaper. /images/graemlins/sekret.gif Cornrows and Co (cornrowsandco.com) makes a similar product called Island Citrus Pomade. I have never tried it, but the ingredients are almost identical.

I have never seen KO, Willie Morrow products (except the relaxer) or Mijara online--only in the bss. Here's what they look like--

Mijara--Coconut oil, olive oil, cottonseed oil, beeswax, paraffin, amino acids, vitamin e, essentials oils, aloe vera.

The Mijara melts really fast. It turns to liquid almost as soon as you touch it. The Willie Morrow is thick like regular grease. I don't know what's in it. The ingredients say: "A combination of five vegetable oils". But there has to be something in it that makes it stay solid in the jar...

I'M SO GLAD. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A NO PETROLEUM NO MINERAL OIL GREASE ALL MY LIFE! LOL! /images/graemlins/rofl.gif THANKS FOR THE INFO, LADIES!
