you

Don't leave it all that long.

I am trying to tell ya'll. When I was in the 7th grade my hair stared growing from a short hair cut. I was doing my own relaxers and RSs. My hair was long ya'll! It grew and grew. There would be times I would relaxe every 3 weeks and my hair was silky and long and grew better than all my friends hair. The way to protect your scalp would be to use petroleum jelly every time.<----for those who don't relaxed becuse of exposure to chemicals.

I wanted a color for X-mas so I went to a "salon" this is when I started having problems w/ my hair. And yes this hooker but straight bleach on my hair, and yes it did fall out.

I didn't realized the power of the hair care methods I was using when I was younger. I didn't pay it any attention as a matter of fact.

Anybody else relax ever 4 wks w/ success?

Not me, but I have a relative who was growing out a short haircut. Her hair was shaved in the back and sometimes she would relax every week on the part that was shaved to keep it fresh and she did this without any problems.

This was over ten years ago, when I was about 15, but I got a relaxer every 4 weeks and trimmed my ends every six weeks and my hair was waist length. At the time,my hair was growing almost an inch a month.

You should try it and let us know how it works for you. A lot of us would be skeptical about it though, without actually seeing progress. Relaxer chemicals can be really harsh and enough of us have had experiences with overprocessing and overlapping to know to stay away from frequent relaxers. Plus for those who go to the salon, it could get pretty pricey. Good luck if you decide to do it though.

I'm really skepical about this, but would like to know if other ladies dare to relax this often; and if so, what's the condition of your hair?

I agree with this especially the part about it getting expensive if you don't self relax. My relaxer budget would mostly likely triple. But different strokes for different folks.

My thoughts excactly plus at the moment I`am very eager to get about 2-3 inches of virgin hair through stretching to find out more about my natural hair.
But who knows,I might try it out in a couple years;)

I think it would depend on the type of hair. Stronger hair may be able to handle it, finer hair won't do as well.

Personally, I've tried it, and it screwed my hair up horribly. But back in those days I didn't exactly know any better. For me, stretching is a much better option.

I used to relax every 4 weeks in high school with no problems. But since LHCF and now that I've been paying attention, my new grwoth really doesn't become noticeable until about 3 or 4 weeks. So basically I was just relaxing pre-relaxed hair. Plus, even if I don't leave the relaxer on that long, it's still no good for me cause I like my hair bone straight.

I went to a hairdresser years ago who woudl relax me every month with something mild, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't do that again, for many reasons. i'd sit in his shop 4 hours on a Saturday, pay money, etc. I'd rather just stretch. I may even try to do my own one day.

Im not tryign to be negative but how hard would it be to only relax the new growth you get in 4 weeks? How much new growth can you get in 4 weeks? How would you precisely not overlap the relaxer? I think its kidna dangerous but if it works for you then great. Id like to see the results in a year or so....

I used to relax every four weeks on the regular. My hair was fine, but I wouldn't recommend it now that I know of the possible consequences.

I was told by my former stylist to relax every 4 weeks. I now stretch my relaxers. I guess some people can handle the 4 weeks but my hair really suffered because of it. Have you ever tried to stretch your relaxer?

I use to relax every 4-5 wks for 20 years until I found this board. My hair never got longer than shoulder length. I now for health benefits only relax every 4 mos and I am now at brastrap.

When you're younger your hair can handle more and grows faster. Maybe thats why it wasn't damaged. I LOVED to get a relaxer every four weeks (in highschool, like that was long ago...) No damage, but once I learned about proper haircare I decided maybe I could strtech to 6 weeks, LOL!
