Today I was at Hair Town (beautyofNewYork.com at 470 Rockaway) picking up French Perm Stabilizer Plus.

There was a woman searching the aisle for "Pink Oil lotion". I had seen gigantic bottles of it at the front when I walked in, 32 oz for $6.99.

Instead of letting her believe it was out of stock, or suggesting she use something without mineral oil, I pointed her to the huge boxes of Pink Oil Moisturizer at the front of the store. She did not seem to be open to getting hair advice despite her visible split ends and her thin (and in some places missing) hairline :-(

Do you give unsolicited advice to shoppers in the BSS?

No need to feel guilty that you didn't give her hair advice. She didn't ask for it... and 9 times out of 10 some women get offended when you try to offer hair help:look:

Yep and contrary to popular belief even though pink lotion is not the best hair moisturizer out there it's still not the worst. Pink lotion alone can't take all the credit for the state of her hair. I know I used it when I was a teenager and did a buch of other no no's to my hair and it was fine. Bad hair care techniques w/ the best prods ind the world won't do a thing.

Nope, no hair tips from me. I tried ONE TIME and the girl was very defensive. She was buying the cheap hair gel and I said "girl, that stuff is like poison to the hair." She looked at this beautiful mane and huffed. I think she took it more like I was belittling her. So now I keep my mouth shut. When I go to the BSS I'm only looking for equipment anyway, I don't buy that stuff anymore and I have more hair on my head for it.

I'm just jelly of the fact that you were IN Hair Town...I have to order online. I think I'd lose my natural mind in that store. Now to answer the question, I wouldn't feel bad. I don't offer unsolicited advice, and don't like people who feel the need to give it!

I know how you feel but some people don't want help at all, and then there are some who do want advice.:yep: I am real good at making small talk with strangers.

But sometimes I can't resist. There are times when I hear someone asking the sales clerk a question in Sallys or a BSS about leave ins, relaxers, facial stuff and the sales clerk respond with out a clue. Just plan guessing and don't know. I hate that!:wallbash:

I knew more about curlformers then the staff selling them and the manager heard me making small talk to a customer about them and asked me some questions. The manager and staff didin't even know how to use them, or that they had a website and a instructional video on the website. He thanked me and asked me why I didn't I apply for a job. LOL!!!

I offer hair help all the time. Here in the Bahamas, we are more open to anyone offering a little help because that's how we are as a people. We are extremely friendly and feel unimposed if offered help from someone who seemingly has more experience or knowledge than ourselves.

 I love that Hair Town is so close...well 15 minutes by car is not all that close but better than paying shipping fees for small items. I also picked up olive oil cream since my sample 1 oz jar is nearly gone.

Thinking back on it now, I'm glad I kept my mouth shut. You just never know if people are gonna flip out or not. She did not seem open at all to advice so I just pointed her to her product and kept it moving.

Don't feel bad. I think you did right too. Most people don't want to hear advice, and if they do they'll ask.

Even people who ask don't really want to hear a lot of the time.
Why did you know where the Pink Oil was anyway?:look: J/K

Nope! I tried once, and got my head chewed off. I was like, I was like, that stuff is 90% mineral oil, which is really bad for the hair. And the woman was like, did I ask you? :nono:

Now, I just mind my business, so I'm not madd at cha:look:

They decided to put the stuff to the front of the store. it's usually further back next to other oil moisturizers like the BB....Sales must have gone down. They must be trying to fix that. I personally don't like it and would rather get that BB with castor oil or that ORS olive oil. But I know people who still cling to that Pink oil now the same as when since they was little, they say it work for them so more power to em.

I remember when I used to slather that pink crap all over my head. Hair would be all over my hands just from the touch of that stuff. Then when I'd comb my hair I'd have it hair all over my shirt and floor. Hair was everywhere. I'd slather on more thinking I needed more and all the while I was KILLING my hair. Sometimes I think back to those days and think, why couldn't I figure this out?:wallbash:

Heck no. I don't want to offend them if they didn't ask for my advice first. I highly recommend this "pink oil" It has no mineral oil and it's a good moisturizer and it's fairly cheap.

Yep, that's true too....even when they ask for advice.

That stuff was in huge vats at the front with a for sale sign on it. I have no idea how she walked by it. It's even in huge pepto-loke pink bottles and is hard to miss.

Yep, that is where it was.....right at the door.
