Ok so i have never sealed in moisturizers....I wash and DC (do my regy) and i apply a little shine after my hair is clean....

During the week i apply a dab of Mango butter or biosilk if that.....but i dont use oils on clean hair....only the day b4 i wash as a conditioner.....

Is sealing an absolute must??????

I personally dont believe in sealing

I dont believe oil 'seals' anything in or out

I guess if you add oil, it keeps your hair at the saturation point longer with whatever you put in it first (or water)

but I have always put in my oils first-so no I would say 'sealing' is NOT a must

I don't seal my hair with oil either. I find oils are too heavy for my hair and leave it feeling greasy. I'm thinking of jumping on the bandwagon and trying vaseline to seal though. As for sealing being a must..I think just do what works for you. I know most ladies on here swear by sealing with oil, but it's your choice.

I never seal either. I don't think it's a must. I don't even think that sealing prolongs the hair to stay moisturized.

i don't know if i would say that it is an absoulte must. like for my hair it is. if i don't seal my hair would be soooo dry. some people on here don't have to do that. if your not having breakage then it may not be for you. hope i make since.:spinning: lol

Thank you ladies....

I wash and set my hair once a week and i find that if i apply creams or oils to my hair....my hair does get weighed down even if is a little. I like my hair free to move and oils are icky to me at least.

a dab of biosilk is good for me...

Thanks

Great topic.. i started to seal and im not a fan.. i feel silly loading on the thick moisture then oiling my ends. i also notice my hair depending on the product acts sticky.. i like the comment about seals anything in or out because i used to use oil alone and it would leave my hair so soft.. and if it got a lil dry then i'd add moisture and my hair was ok no problem.. SO NO MORE SEALING FOR ME!!:nono:

yeah oil actually absorbs:yep:

especially with nothing else added to saturate first, the oil will be the first thing to saturate/absorb

Isnt biosilk serum? If serum is what you are using, then you are sealing. I agree with Isis though, oils and butters are very moisturizing.

I seal with oils because my hair is very dry and frizzy. I can see a big difference when I do and don't seal. I don't think its necessary for all hair types though. If I had thin hair I would imagine it would be too greasy.

I don't seal much either. Ever so often, if my end feel a dry I put a little NTM & oil and bun for a hour or so in the evening. That does the trick everytime. I don't put much on b/c my hair gets weighted down very easily and I don't really need a lot of product. NTM & Chi usually get the job done.

ITA with Shtow. Butters, oils, and serums are sealing products.

If it's a leave-in conditioner like HE Break's Over, PM the conditioner, or a water-based moisturizer that doesn't have a lot of oil and can easily evaporate, I will seal in with one drop (literally) of Vatika, but if it's a moisturizer like ORS carrot oil or DE hairdress, then I don't, because those are mostly oil, and that would be overkill...

I had been wondering lately: if you seal after moisturizing, how does subsequently added moisturizer get to your hair? wouldn't it just be sitting on top of the previously added layer of oil?

I don't "seal". I think the term is overused and taken too literally sometimes.
I use oil, as needed.
The one I use helps soften my hair.

Great question. I moisturize, then seal every day...but I was still wondering the same thing:drunk:

i do not seal becasue i dont see the purpose. i hate added oils/butters in my hair because the feeling of greasy or oily hair.

Yeah I find that I need to seal as well!! Otherwise, like you my hair is dry and frizzy.

I love my oils, but I don't think that it's a must it your hair has prospered without oil in your regimen, keep doing what works well for you:)

I know I need to seal. I've tried different things...

Oil alone = :nono:
Moisturizer alone = :nono:

Moisturizer and oil seems to be the best for me.

I agree that the "sealing" is not 100% effective and it's only temporary, which is why I moisturize and seal every 1-2 days. Oils and moisturizers absorb and rub off.

I don't think anyone really thinks that using oils is the only way to go or that it really creates some uber effective water seal... that would be silly :giggle:

I was always aware that some people don't like/need oils. Some people only need oils. We all have different hair :)

Vaseline would be a more effective sealer than natural oils, the only thing that always stops me from using it frequently is that you have to bring out the big guns to actually remove all of it from your hair if you use it frequently. Gentle shampoos will not remove it and I don't like using harsh shampoos.

i seal with coconut oil or cocasta oil every morning and night and i love it. cocasta oil is a conditioning oil and i noticed that if i use it alone my hair stays soft but i usually seal with it. coconut oil is my fave oil to seal with and it is very light so i dont need much and it doesnt weight my strands down. i can use nourish and shine moisturizer/butter without sealing but no other moisturizer does the trick for me with out ading oils.
