I decided to dump my stylist

I realized yesterday that she is not about the health or look of my hair or none of her other clients. She is only about making her money. I used to go every two weeks and get a rollerwrap but I have learned to do it myself and I can do it better than her. I overheard her talking about how ugly one of her clients hair was and I don't think that's right. I wonder what have she said about me and my hair on the weeks I am stretching. I will only go to her on relaxer time because I am afraid to do my own. Did I overreact or am I right?

No, that was rude and extremely unprofessional to talk down about someone who is lining her pockets. You did the right thing.

You were right!! Don't ever doubt your first instincts. If you feel that you need to back away from a certain situation go with your gut feeling. I had a very similar experience with my old stylist. After putting up with her being late for every appointment, triple booking, and having me in the salon for an entire day and on top of that charging different prices for the same service to different clients, I walked away and have never looked back. I do my wash and sets on my own and go to another stylist who basically does anything the client wants and has had the same prices for the last 10 years for my relaxer every 12-16 weeks (he just does what I want and doesn't pass comments or judgements about why I stretch).
I did this because I had to do what I felt was right for my head and not what somebody else thought was the right thing to do.

yeah ur right...i hate being around negative people and for someone that you trust with your own hair to not to be supportive than thats really a strike against...i dumped two of my stylist last year also(one that i just allowed to do braids and the other that was mostly i allowed to do sewins)...and i picked up one great one...i explained to her what i want and shes been good so far...

I don't think how you feel is wrong at all.

I did the same thing for the same reasons.

I felt the lady that did my hair was all about money and even treated me like all my good haircare ideas were bad.

She was very arrogant about what products would work and honestly, she had no right to because I NEVER saw her w/o a weave or wig.

Like you (and so many others on the board), it was time for me to take matters in my own hands!!

you did not over react at all, if she is not trying to assist in improving your hair's health then she deserves the boot, I had to let my previous hair dresser go, he was the bomb but when I started getting serious about my hair's health he showed no care at all, eventually I let him go!

I am going to dump her completely because I have been going to her for about 8 years and my hair never grew. I started with my healthy hair journey last year in May and I have gotten my own hair to grow and it's healthy and she had nothing to do with it. I can do my hair myself. And also there is a lady who does hair about 30 min from where I live and she does fire rollersets. I think I will start going to her.

You definately made the right decision. :)

I used to go to a woman who didn't care about the health of my hair...looking back now, I realize it was in her best interest for my hair to be 'jacked up', and out of control, that way I'd go running to her more often. I was so young back then, I didn't know anything!

Now I do my hair myself...when I need a relaxer, I go to a beautician who is more interested in the health of my hair and getting it to grow than anything else. Shoot, she actually likes it when I stretch, says it makes my hair stronger!

You are right to dump her. When it comes to your hair, it's all about you, and if your stylist does not support that, sayonara!

I agree. Now that I think about it EVERY stylist that I have had did this(at some point or another). And to think that I would go every week religiously....makes me wonder what they said about me :perplexed

How dumb of her to talk about how ugly her client's hair was. It doesn't say much about her and her skills.

I'm thinking about changing my stylist too. Don't get me wrong, I like her a lot. She doesn't double book and I can set an appointment with her rather quickly.

The reason why I may change is because I know how I want my hair to look after it is done. I like the light and airy bouncy curl look. She only achieved the look a couple of times. She scoops this "stuff" in her hands rather quickly and puts it in my hair. It weighs it down too much. It comes out nicely, but I know what I want.

Now, a couple of weeks ago I was at the store and I saw this girl's hair that worked there. I had to give her a compliment about how bouncy and free it looked. She had been going to her stylist for a couple of years and it is approximately 10 minutes from where I stay. She told me that the reason she liked her stylist because she was into healthy hair. When I heard that I wanted to dance. I got the number and will be giving her a call for a consultation shortly.

You did the right thing. It's amazing sometimes how long you'll stick with a situation just b/c you don't realize that there is a better answer/solution elsewhere and see how happy you were when you realized there was a stylist into healthy hair?

And I wonder how can anyone really have ugly hair? I don't there really can be such a thing. All hair is beautiful as long as you take care of it. And exactly like someone said before her dumbass is doing the girl's hair so doesn't that mean she's not doing her job right?

Moving on to bigger and better things I say..........
